The TPS Throttle Position Sensor is not hard to fix. 30-minutes max. Is is located on the Throttle housing and is related to the Throttle (the gate) opening/closing.
0. Wait until the engine is completely cooled!
1. Disconnect the Negative side of the Battery.
2. Disconnect and remove the Air Cleaner to Throttle house.
3. Remove the Throttle cables (pull cables forward and rotate the cable up and over the channels and slide the cylinderical keeper out) (x 2)
4. Unlock and disconnect the connections to the throttle position sensor and the intake position sensor.
5. Remove the Throttle Housing from the intake. (mine had 3 x 10mm bolts.)
6. There should be a 8 or 10mm bolt(s) holding in the throttle position sensor. Remove it/them.
7. Since you have the Throttle House off, clean it completely with Carbuerator Cleaner.
8. Install the new TPS. and installation is reverse of above.
Good Luck, let me know if it helped and is there is anything else I can do for you.

1991 Crown Vic. Hard to start, and hesitates when trying to take off, replaced the egr, Evp & tps sensors, did not work.

May be weak fuel pump or check valve letting residual pressure bleed back to pump . What is the running pressure at idle ? Fuel volume is important also .

My 2005 merc mountaineer is in failsafe mode. It starts but will not respond wen I try to accelerate. How hard is it to repair the tps. And how expensive is the tps

How do you know the TPS is bad? This should have an electronic throttle plate which receives a signal from the gas pedal to to operate the throttle. Either one of these sensors will be most likely the issue and not the TPS. Have the codes scanned to help you determine which one. Disconnecting the battery and reconnecting will usually correct the problem ikf it is not a hard sensor failure so you can get it to a shop

Whare is the TPS sensor located on a huyndai 2007 2.7 L? Does the throttle body have to be replaced along with the TPS sensor. Is the replacement sensor rivited to the throttle body? Scott

on the hyundai the tps rarely fails. so check the pedal sensor on pedal of car. there are 2 sensors on this car, one on side of carburator, and one at accelerater pedal check this one first. the throttle body does not need to be changed to fix the tps. but usually it is located on the throttle body. at the throttle plate.

My galant shifts really hard only in 2nd gear. Do you know why that maybe?

Check TPS (throttle position sensor) for smooth and linear electrical response over the entire range of motion. If not, or the EPC (Electronic Pressure Control) solenoid failed. Easy fix in pan. Fix as soon as possible or hard parts will eventually break. The ECM uses the signal from the TPS to calculate the transmission line pressure for shift firmness through the EPC.
Good luck and thank you for using Fixya

Service light w/wrench

Sound like your Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) has an issue. Check the wire leads first and if that is good, replace the TPS. A faulty TPS will give you a hard 1-2 shift and delayed shift on the higher gears at WOT. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to know your car is running 100% again.
