Dear Steam,
I never like to be the bearer of bad news, but this will be one of those times. If the vehicle is cold when you start the vehicle up(cold like siting overnight) and you start the vehicle up and almost instantly steam starts shooting or puffing out of the radiator with the cap off then this is a telltale universal sign of a failed head gasket. This is the result of a failure on the gasket between the exhaust sealing side and coolant sealing galleys, hence the steam blowing out of the radiator, this is the only place where it can escape in the cooling system. If the vehicle wasn't driven for an extended period of time inthis condition then it may still be very repairable.A head gasket repair is obviously an extensive bill, if i can answer any more questions please get back to me HOPE I COULD HELP!!
