Have a 2002 hyundai santa fe that has developed a loud whining noise sometimes after driving for a while. Thinking perhaps it is power steering problems. husband checked and said looks like high pressure line is leaking but that pump appears ok. Expensive parts for this car. Any suggestions???

Not really expensive just messy to repair. Return lines (low pressure) are much more common and they travel along the frame rail on the right side of the subframe from the power steering rack to the cooler line in front of the radiator. The high pressure line starts at the pump and travels over the top of the motor to the back side (it's a thick line with a big banjo bolt at the pump). They go too but less frequently.

If it's the return line and not the pressure line you can cut it and put some rubber hose from the parts store over the cut part with a couple clamps and that'll hold you for quite a while till you can get the line and get it installed.

The return line, done correctly, can be a bit of a bear on the ground but it's fairly quick in the air on a lift at a garage. The pressure line isn't too bad and can be undertaken by the home mechanic.

Try replacing the power steering fluid and replace the filter in the pump hosing, if the high pressure hose is leaking replace it as well. the hose can colaspe inside and make it hard to steer and will not deliver enough fluid for the power steering. The reason I say this is the pump is whining so it has high pressure build up. Aslo the return line could have colasped but dout it.

2003 Hyundai Santa fe, pump changed 3 times, last time Hyundai pump, reservoir, Hyundai fluid and both high and low pressure hoses. cooler is clear and flows free. Still have a whine.

if you are talking power steering system, the whine is a vibration in a problem control valve and could be in the steering valves on the rack

2008 santa fe front noise

Is it a "wine" noise that gets louder when you rev it up? Sounds like an idler pulley. Is it a 3.3L motor?

Our 2001 Santa Fe has developed a roar. I thought

If your noise is a low pitch rumble that gets louder the faster you go, it likely is a wheel bearing that is the cause. Another sign that the noise is from a wheel bearing is if the noise tends to get louder when steering one direction at a steady speed, and quieter when steering the other direction. A transmission noise does not change with the steering.

Whining noise when turning steering wheel. Power teering fluid is ok. any suggestions.

It is probably the belt slipping around the pulley on the power steering pump.
Just have that replaced and it should be fine.

Hope that helps,
Matt

I need to know how to replace power steering pump and where it is located? My car whines constantly. A walmart mechanic heard me drive off and said it was more than likely the power steering pump.Help!

try checking the belt and the fluid first if it turns out to be the pump all of the car manuals you want are at your local library for free and give illustrated details and alphabetical indexes

My 2002 Santa Fe v6 has developed a power steering leak at the point that all the oil from the reservoir dried out and every day must filled up with new fluid. What should I do?

Bring it to the garage ASAP to prevent damage to the system.
because then it becomes very expensive
let them repair the leak.

Power Steering Pump on 01 v6 santa fe

Sure sounds like its low of fluid or the filter is very dirty! My guess is that it works well driving straight open road. Most often the filter is inside the pump. Frankster016

Whining Noise

Sure sounds like a power steering pump, if they did not flush the grim out of the system from the old pump before they replaced the pump the new pump will fail in short order.
