SOURCE: my 91 chevy truck wont idol and runs really rich

Make sure the Coolant temp sensor for the computer is actually working right.  Its the one next to the thermostat housing, it has nothing to do with the gauge.  When they go they usually don't throw any codes because they kind of work enough (same with the O2) to throw way to much fuel at the motor when it's hot, causing flooding out, stalling, etc. and of course it's no good for the O2 or the catalytic convertor.

Hi, My 96 jeep cherokee is running rough at idol and backfires. I replaced the fuel pump, plugs ,cap, rotor, intake air contorl mod.and wires. I cand seem to find egr. valve. can you please help?

You have a vacuum line off somewhere, or the egr valve is leaking at idol, or you have manifold vacuum hooked up to the egr valve, make sure the vacuum line going to the egr valve has no vacuum at idol, only during acceleration.

Sudden drop in fuel mileage from 28 to 20 mpg. Have had it to several garages including 2 Ford dealers with no luck. Runs so rich that your eyes burn while standing beside it and frequently backfires...

from your statement there has been no fault code reading done and it has all been guessing
Has anybody thought of checking the cat converters for failure and blocking the exhaust system
rich and back firing indicates injector seal leaks which will not show as an independent code but as too rich

98 ford ranger 4.0L runs very rough when mass air flow sensor is plugged in. runs, but still a little rough but drivable when unplugged. tried new sensor, still the same. any ideas?

did you try cleaning the idle control valve and the egr valve out with carb cleaner.try that before replacing any parts, also if there is any codes in the system those should also lead you in the right direction.
