Hello there:

Casting dates are usually expressed this way, “C 18 4.” In this example, the “C” means the month of
March, “18” is the day of the month, and “4” is the last digit of the year. This last digit may mean ’64, ’
74, ’84 or ’94, so you must also check the other characteristics of the block to determine in which
decade and year it was made. Some parts have the decade and year cast on them; these identifiers
look like this: “C 18 84.” GM introduced new model years in September or October of each year, so
when you see a casting date of “L 16 7” for example, this indicates a casting date used in the 1968
model year because it translates into December 16, 1967. A 1968 model Camaro assembled on
January 6, 1968, might contain a number of parts that were cast in December, 1967. Casting dates
should precede hand-stamped engine assembly dates.

The block casting is a 72-80 2 bolt main,,,used mortec.com ,,,,,,,,,to find out what it came out in you will have to look at the front of the engine left side,,where the head bolts down,,, should be a 1.5" flat spot with numbers stamped in it,,,that will tell you, what it came out in and hp,,if the the block has not been decked that is,then it will be blank ,,go to a gm website and look for vin suffix codes,,there should be link to decode the numbers stamped in the block

Engines have "firing order" stamped on the block somewhere. OR, do a search on internet of your particular engines firing order. NOTE where Cylinder "1" is. Some are front right, and some are front left. Check diagrams for distributor cap.

I hav a 65 f100,motor has been swaped out,i think its a 302,the onley block numbers i c r on the front block pansenger side that reads 2(over)80

There should be a serial number stamped on the block itself in front of the one of the heads (the one that sits back further. With this serial number you should be able to contact a dealer and find out the correct engine size. Older Fords had either a 289 cubic inch, a 302 and a 351 small block which from the outside will all look the same.

I'm russian. I've got Ford Escape XLT 2005 v6 3.0 and I can't find engine sequence/engine number/or product sequence number on the engine. Please, help me to find it.

we have the same problem here in spain with american built vehicles ,When i come to do the paperwork and their is no engine number and the spanish authorities insist on numbers on everything and three copies of it all with stamps on.So when i get a crysler gran voyager or ford mercury with no chassis number stamped in the actual chassis ,just a silly plate in the dash which means nothing here .I do a bit of doctoring before the vehicle goes for its mechanical inspection and they evan measure it for height and width and length and they look for the stamped chassis number which on all american vehicles i take to the test and they are always in the same place .Drivers side on top of suspension ,and engine number stamped on a nice area of the block, thats accessable ,if no engine number exists then use the last 6 numbers of the chassis number .----know what i mean
