Your car uses the OBD-II protocol. You will need an OBD-II code reader to get the codes which will help you figure out what is wrong. More info can be found at

Will broken bulb set engine management light off

Most cars that sense burnt out / broken bulbs simply alert you to the problem, not cause bigger issues. Post this problem again but include the year, make and model of the car for the best chances of getting the help you're looking for.

What could be the cause of a rattling noise but engine never shuts off. No Mil. Alerts or any stuttering. just loss of power and loud knocking noise the more you rev it?

I have had personal experience of a head gasket blow the dodgy mechanic who re-built my motor at the time did not clean the head bolts and so they were not tensioned properly (I digress). Anyhow it blew between two cylinders - man what a racket! I thought my engine was kaput. In short my answer is head gasket - could also be a burnt out valve but most likely something in your top end of the motor.

Engine light on

Check you coolant and oil level to make sure they are O.K.
Then stop at autozone to have them check the error codes coming from your computer that are causing the light to come on. Your engine has many sensors that communicate with the computer to keep the engine operating efficently. When a out of range signal is sent to the computer it will cause the light to turn on to alert you.
If you disconnect your battery for a half hour and reconnect it, this should turn the lamp of untill it gets the error code again

My engine oil pressure alert comes on under heavy acceleration and sometime during normal driving. Any ideas?

I would have someone check the actual oil pressure with a mechanical test gauge very soon as there is a possibility that you could seriously damage the engine if the light is ignored. There are two things that could be happening: You could actually have low oil pressure in which case you are running the risk of causing engine damage if you continue to operate the vehicle when the light is on or you could have a faulty sending unit that isn't reading the oil pressure correctly and is causing the alert to wrongly come on. Either way you should have it checked out as soon as possible to be sure of the cause. Make sure that the oil level is full and that the oil is clean and of the right viscosity for your particular engine as dirty or low oil can cause a whole host of problems.

2009 Traverse: coolant pipe on top of the block at the rear became dislodged, lost coolant and now have "reduced power" alert on computer display. Pipe re installed and coolant replaced but how do I...

The Engine have been soaked and everything electrical has been soaked, causing disrupting in electrical circuitry(ies).
Make sure all the liquid has been removed from around any electrical, including on the spark plugs, belts, etc. and inespecially the alternator. Use a hair dryer on 'hot' to dry out everything. Wet plugs, alternator, distributor/electrical ignition coils and wiring will cause this error mesage
Disconnect the Battery for 30-minutes and reconnect and check for the error light. This should clear any error message.

The engine light came on and wont go off.

the check engine light is on to alert you that a fault has occured in the electronic engine or emission system controls, the system will need to be tested by a shop to see what code was stored when the computer turned the light on, there are over 200 different faults that cause the light to be turned on.

Dear Sir/Madam: Would u pls let me know what possible causes, defects or problems would be when I get this sign on the panel: "SERVICE ENGINE SOON". Previously I wrote "CHECK ENGINE SOON". Sorry!!!!.

your maintenance service is overdue and that triggers the dash warning.  The mileage triggers these alerts an good maintenance shop can reset them.  Have your oil and other services done
