Question about 2001 Ford Focus

1 Answer

My 2001 Ford Focus ZTS has a knocking noise when I turn the wheel from left to right. My first thought was CV joint. However when it was at the Mechanic in June he said the CV joints were in good shape. He felt the knock too when he pulled the car into the garage. He said he thought it could be a bad strut because nothing else looked bad or to be causing it? Does anyone else have any suggestions on what this could be? Thanks..seriously concerned Girl ;)

Could be the bearing on top of the strut ,personally i would go for the CV ,leave it alone till it gets worse ,then its easier to diagnose

2001 ford focus is making noise on right side axle?

You need to jack your car up and take a look at that side of your car. Inspect the axle, looking closely at the rubber boots on the axle (these are your CV joints) make sure they're not torn if they are then you'll need to replace the axle most likely because these boots hold grease which in turn keep the CV joints lubricated, once torn the grease escapes and the joint dries out. Also remove your tire and inspect your brakes, rotors, dust shields. look for anything that might be rubbing. Another possibilty is you could have a bad hub bearing on that wheel. This is a little more difficult to diagnose unless it's severly worn. If everything else checks good on that side. Driveyour car, preferably in a large open area like a parking lot in a straight line until you hear the noise then turn left and right, not sharply but just enough to shift te weight of the car, if the sound of the noise changes it's a good possibilty you have a worn hub bearing. Hope that helps, gl.

Ford focus - clunk in driveline in reverse when wheels are lock left or even right

Drive Axle CV Joint is bad
You will need to replace the complete drive axle,on one side of the vehicle, and inspect the other side as well
You will be getting a rebuilt part.
I believe, when you turn the wheels and back up ,it is the outer joint.

Clicking noise when turning steering wheel cannot be heard when driving car is a 2oo4 focus edge

cv joints click when turning corners. usually turning left means right joint is bad , turning right means left is bad... hard to tell with out looking at it , but sounds like a bad axle,

Loud clicking noise when 4wd is engaged on left wheel when turnin

Check your cv (constant velocity joint) , It may have a big clearance which is the source of the noise when turning left or right and when 4wd is engage. Juts like front wheel drive cars, if the cv joint is with clearance it will tend to sound in the left or right turns. It is not exactly clicking sound , nmore like knocking sound , low in pitch, but not heavy.

2002 Mazda Protege 5: I am having a knocking sound coming from my front right of the car.The noise is most noticable when turn right with speed. The noise is also there when driving straight but not all...

I would check the sway bar linkages, they are usually the first to go, and they are only $40. Its an easy 'do it yourself' project, remove the old one with torches or a grinder (with a small cutting wheel). You can also use a vise grip and sockets but it takes longer.

You can't tell these are damaged until you remove the part. I change mine every 100 000km or so.
