The fuel filter is under the car, directly behind the gas tank. It is between the tank and the charcoal filter assembly, which looks like a rectangular black box. The filter sits parallel to the back of the fuel tank and looks like a metallic or black cylinder about 2 inches in diameter and about 3 inches long. Use jack stands or a lift to give yourself safe and ample room get to it.

DANGER: The fuel system is pressurized! Before doing any service, relieve the pressure by starting the engine and removing the fuel pump fuse or relay while the engine is running, the car should die after a few moments. Also, it's probably advisable to remove the gas cap and disconnect the battery after depressurizing the system(make sure you know your radio's theft-lock code before disconnecting the battery!).

You should EXPECT gas to spill when you do this so keep rags handy - keep clear of open flames.

THINK before you work with fuel - a drop light with an open bulb is a bad idea, as is working indoors near a gas heater with a pilot light. If you have to be told not to smoke you probably should go to a mechanic (umm, for the car)

Before service, clean the lines and filter - use compressed air or carb cleaner.

The OEM unit probably has a METAL clip on the incoming line - it's very difficult to remove without a tool which is cheap and readily available at auto parts stores. Make sure the new filter comes with a plastic clip and don't try to re-use the metal one.

To remove the outgoing side of the filter you should use TWO wrenches, a larger open end wrench to hold the filter body steady and a flare-nut wrench on the fuel line. Failure to use 2 wrenches as I describe can easily result in twisting of the fuel line. Failure to use the flare-nut wrench can result in rounding the edges of the nut. The outgoing line has an o-ring which you really should replace if you are replacing the filter.

When the lines are off remove the bracket on the side of the filter.

New filter installation should be reverse of the above.

Will start but whren press on excelerator dies

Sounds like your vehicle is having a fuel delivery issue.. Check the following

a. Fuel Level
b. Fuel Pressure
c. Fuel Filter
d. Defective Fuel Pump

Probably you have just had a Fuel Pump Failure. You need to have someone put a fuel pressure gauge on your system to determine if it is a blocked Pump, blocked Fuel Filter or just No fuel.

It can also be you put in the wrong Fuel (had that happen to a few of my clients before.

I need directions for changing out the fuel filter for a 2005 Ford Sport Trac

  1. Put some safety glasses on.
  2. Remove the gas cap.
  3. Remove the bracket holding the fuel lines by the fuel filter to give you a little working space.
  4. take the gas tool and put it around the line and press towards the fuel filter. You may have to wiggle it a bit and work with it but eventually it will pop a little loose and the you pull that line out of the fuel filter.
  5. Do the same with the other line.
  6. Now the fuel filter should be out. Note the arrows on the new filter and the arrows on it. The arrows must point forward or the fuel filter will not function properly.
  7. The fuel lines just push firm right into the new filter.
  8. Now reverse the previous steps to finish the job.
  9. Don't forget to click that fuel cap a few times to make sure it is on real good.

Regards, Tony

Has began cutting off in midmotion. Have put fuel

if it were the fuel filter you would feel the engine starving for fuel. If it just cuts out its not a filter. Its most likely a fuel pump or one of three ignition parts. Only testing will reveal the faulty prt unles you just want to throw parts at this.

How to change a fuel filter on a 95 ford f-350 with a 460 engine

You will need to check inside the frame under the drivers door for the fuel filter. You will need a tool to remove the fuel lines. Remove clips from the fuel line holding the fuel filter (new ones supplied with new filter). Use the tool to insert into the fuel line to remove on both sides. Once lines are removed, remove fuel filter and replace with new ones. Be sure to put in new clips and attach lines. Good luck

Fuel filter

the fuel filter near the rear tire is the only filter. if you are still not getting any fuel pressure you may want to check your fuel pump.
