Change your fuel filter may be clogged making the pump work harder and taking longer to prime the fuel system .......

I have a 93 Ford F150 4.9 liter. And when I go to start it the fuel pump stays running for close to four minutes and then it will not start until the fuel pump shuts off?

OK, when you turn the key to on, it will start the pump for about 2 seconds-this is just to put pressure in the lines and in the fuel rail for easy starting. If key is not turned to start, pump will shut off after 2 seconds. But when cranking in start, and when engine is running, the pump is on full time.
If your pump runs longer than 2 seconds with key only in on position, you have a fuel circuit problem. It very well could be a bad fuel pump relay staying on. Or it could be a computer problem signaling the relay to stay on longer. Try a new fuel pump relay first and see if that was the problem.

Why does my truck start up and run for about 10 seconds before it dies? I

It should at least run for several seconds after you turn the key on. It MAY run longer, but it SHOULD run for several seconds. If fuel demand goes down (engine not burning much fuel), the pump may not run after that.

My 2001vw passat some times won't start unless i use starting fluid.I have changed air filter and spark plugs. When i hook it up no codes come up

Troubleshooting steps:
  1. When you first turn the key on, listen for the sound of the FUEL PUMP (humming sound). If you just turn the key on but don't turn it to START, the fuel pump should run for no more than 3-5 seconds. If it does, continue troubleshooting;
  2. If the FUEL PUMP runs longer than 3-5 seconds, check for fuel leaks.
  3. Test pressure at the fuel rail. If pressure is erratic or too high at idle, replace the fuel pressure regulator;
  4. If fuel pressure is too low at idle, replace the fuel filter. Still too low? Replace the fuel pump and fuel pickup strainer.

I bought my 06 Dodge Charger, used, in 2011. First year no problems, then sometime in 2013, I would get in, turn the key, "reh-reh-reh-reh-reh"... stop, turn key off, wait a few seconds, turn key and...

Its not the plugs. And probably not a sensor.
It could be the fuel pump relay or the pump in the tank.
A sensor going bad would make the check engine light come on with a trouble code. A faulty pump relay or pump would make it take longer to get the fuel pressure up to normal. You could probably make it start by just cranking it longer too.
I would check to see if the pump comes on when it fails to crank.

1996 Chevrolet Corvette LT4 "Intermittent problems with starting the car"

Sounds like an intermittent fuel pressure regulator problem, or the fuel pump periodically doesn't run when you turn the key on (electrical problem). When you turn the key to on, the fuel pump should run for a few seconds to pressurize the fuel delivery system (you should hear the pump running at the back of the car). His "fix" is to just do this twice to make sure the pump runs and the proper pressure is at the engine when you go to start the car.
I would check to make sure the pump runs for a few seconds with key on. I would also check the fuel pressure before and while trying to start the car (to make sure it is in the proper range).

Replaced fuel pump and still have same problem when u turn the key on the pump will come on for a second then no sound will not start

fuel pumps only run for a few seconds when the key is first turned on, then runs all the time after car starts, need to check fuel pressure at the fuel rail, or could be electrical, also check the fuel pump safety switch the owners manual should tell you where it is located

I own a 1990 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer and for some reason it will not start. The fuel pump AND fuel filter are brand new but when you turn the car over it wont start. It tries to start the longer turn the key...

you have a fuel pump relay . Check to see if the fuel pump is humming when you turn key. check for proper ground for fuel pump. try spraying some carb cleaner into the intake then attempt a start. The engine will run for a few seconds, this will verify spark. corosion at the electrical connections is always a possibility. and lastly can you get the engine running by opening the throttle when starting?

Why does my truck start some times and when it sits for a few days it acts like its not getting any gas all it does is turn over never hits

Dependig on the mileage on the engine there are three things that come to mind but are not all that could cause the problem you are experincing. One if the fuel pump check valve is worn out it could allow the fuel to drain back into the tank and would cause it to take longer to start. On GM engines when you turn the key to the on postion the pump will run for two seconds so turn the key on and off about 6 times before starting, if it starts right away you have found the problem. The second issue is the oil pressure switch it controls the fuel pump if there is no oil pressure then it won't allow the fuel pump to run, again this could be caused by the oil draining out or the oil pressure switch is going bad, They normally leak a little oil on the outside if they are going bad, but not always. So try the first test before starting then try to start if it starts up it's fuel pump if it is still hard to start check the oil pressure switch the oil pressure switch cost about $20.00 and can take a half hour to change depending on the engine in the truck the v-6 or v-8. If you change the switch try the first test again if it is still hard to start it may have low compression low or no spark plugged air filter and so on. Hope this helps and thanks for using fix-ya.

Takes multiple times to start

I think you have a faling fuel pump or a bad pressure regulator allowing fuel pressure to bleed down when the engine is off.
Try this test - When you start the car for the first time of the day, turn the key to "ON", wait a few seconds, turn the key off. Wait about 15 seconds, turn the key to "ON" again, wait a few seconds. Then wait one final time for 1 seconds and try starting the car. If it starts right away, that means fule pressure is bleeding of due to a bad check vavle int he fuel pump, a bad fuel pump or a bad pressure regulator.

The reason for the procedure is because when you turn the key to "ON", the fuel pump runs for 2 seconds and then shuts off if the engine is not running. The 15 seconds wait is for the power and fuel pump relay to cycle off before it will run the pump again.

Let us know how the test comes out. The fuel pump is in the fuel tank and hums when it is running.
