Question about 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

2 Answers

'01 Silverado 5.3 started, then stalled. Will not start again. The only thing I've noticed in the last several months is that sometimes the engine wouldn't catch at first, and would have to try again. It hasn't thrown any codes. Could this be a fuel pump problem?

The check valve in the fuel pump could be bleeding down, but there are many other possibilities that are unrelated to the pump. You need to have it professionally diagnosed. There are too many possibilities to be throwing expensive parts such as the fuel pump at it.

Yes, more then likely its the fuel pump doing that! so to make sure when it tries to start and want crank u need to have someone if u cant do it your self to get a fuel pressure gauge and check the pressure! make sure that it has a constent pressure that the manual says it should have!!

This is starting to sound very much like a blocked catalytic converter on the exhaust system. Try unbolting the exhaust in front of the catalytic unit and see if it will start and run normally. If it does then the unit needs replacing, if not then thats me tapped out for ideas.

If the idle air control valve is working, the passage may be clogged. Other things to check are the PCV flow and possible vacuum leaks.

Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r7427423-fix_poor_idle_high_idle_stalling_fuel . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with engine size info.

Chevrolet silverado stalling at times

Possible that the fault is related to the ignition unit. it will be good to take a code check. Possible that the fuel pump pressure is also checked.
This must be done only when the fault occurs, it will be best to check the electrical connections of the ignition unit.

If Engine Starts with accelerator pedal depressed , check idle speed control valve (if equipped) and wiring connection. Did you check for vacuum leaks. Do you know if your ignition timing is correct? How did you check your fuel pump? I take it no codes have been set, so if not there are several things to check for when the engine stalls #1 is to check cold start injector and cold start injector time switch. If engine stalls sometimes- check airflow meter and connectors You can tap the connector or relay or wiggle and notice if there is a slight change in the engine idle.

Car runs for 5 mins ,stalls, sometimes starts and sometime stalls

try checking the coil igniter, if this is faulty and it gets hot it will really make your car die but when its cold it will make your car run again.
