Question about 2003 GMC Sierra

1 Answer

Just wondering how difficult it is to replace a water pump for my truck? I don't think it is attached to the timing belt so I wont be that hard. but, for someone who is a pretty good handy man with basic tools, how difficult of a job would it be?

How difficult is it to replace the water pump/timing belt on a 1995 plymouth Neon?

It is less than 2 hours to change (Including Cleaning it real well). Not difficult to do at all. Just make sure you change the Thermostat when you do this to ensure you have the Warranty.

I am wondering how difficult it may be to replace the water pump in a 1996 chevy camaro z28 ??

Aside from the space you have to work in it is not hard at all. Some bolts and hoses and an electrical connection. The accessory brackets stay because the pump is right between them. Unlike the early days before serpentine belt system where the brackets would attach to the pump as well.
But while you're in there, since the LT1 has the distributer behind the pump, you might consider repacing the cap, rotor and wires.

I own a 1996 Saturn and need to replace the water pump. I was wondering if I need to replace the timing chain too?

If your pump is in with the timing belt, then I would recommend that you replace it also. Your best off getting the timing belt kit, it comes with the belt and pulleys. It is a little more , but you only want to do this job once. You don't want to go back in there because you didn't change that one pulley

I am somewhat a good mechanic. I have a blown head gasket on my 2001 PT Cruiser, Im wondering how difficult it is to remove the head to get it checked out and then replace the new gasket. I have already...

It should'nt be to hard for you since your a mechanic, there are a lot of steps (too many to type)..
I would go down to the AutoZone parts store and buy a book on this paticular car, about $20.00. You will get all torque specs, thighting sequence--ect...
I think if you take your time, you can do it...Good Luck

Wont hold water. big hose on the bottom of the radiator attaches 2 the engine and it leaks right out of the engine underneath that hose...

Well, if that Radiator hose is not leaking, then the Water pump seals have gone bad. More than likely you need a new water pump.

Vehicles w/ Timing Belt Driven Water Pumps Should Always Have The Water Pump Replaced When The Timing Belt Is Replaced.

If you do not, then the Timing Belt will fail, turning a low cost repair into thousands because of valve train damages. . .

For the Timing Belt & Water Pump KIT - its around $258 through NAPA

99 Volvo S80 water pump replacement

if this helps.. I had the 1998 model S70. the water pump was driven by the timing belt. you had to take the timing belt off just to replace the water pump. it was just a simple bolt on replacement. the only difficult issue is resetting the hydraulic tensioner on the timing belt. the hydraulic tensioner has to be completely taken off and compressed VERY SLOWLY in a vise. then insert a very hard drill bit or (special volvo tool) into a keeper hole, reinstall hydraulic tensioner onto car and reinstall timing belt.very quickly remove drill bit from keeper hole in tensioner and the tensioner snaps back out to put tension on belt. and you are done.

WHERE IS THE WATER PUMP LOCATED ON A 1998 PLYMOUTH GRAND VOYAGER

Here are the steps required to change the water pump on the 3.0L engine.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Remove the drive belts. Remove the timing belt covers and the timing belt.
  4. Remove the water pump mounting bolts.
  5. Separate the water pump from the water inlet pipe and remove the water pump.
  6. Inspect the water pump and replace as necessary.
To install:
  1. Clean all gasket and O-ring surfaces on the water pump and water pipe inlet tube.
  2. Wet a new O-ring with water and install it on the water inlet pipe.
  3. Install a new gasket on the water pump.
  1. Install the pump inlet opening over the water pipe and press until the pipe is completely inserted into the pump housing.
  2. Install the water pump-to-block mounting bolts and tighten to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
  3. Install the timing belt and timing belt covers. Install and adjust the drive belts.
  4. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Fill the cooling system to the proper level with a 50/50 mixture of clean, ethylene glycol antifreeze and water.
  5. Run the engine and check for leaks. Top off the coolant level, if necessary.
