The one that fits!

That's not the way it works. you buy a socket set. It has one set of AF Sockets and one set of Metric sockets. The one you use is the one that fits.

On my 2004 mercury mountaineer if anyone knows what size socket fits the rear axle nut let me know I have been told a 36 mm but it seems like it's a little too big for the nut

36mm is the consensus of opinion, but in reality, it is the socket that 'FITS'! Most socket sets come in metric and imperial, you use that one that is the best fit.

What is the nut size on the end of the front xle and socket size

measure across the flats of the nut and that will be the nut size
so if the dimension is say 1 inch then the nut will be 1 inch and the socket will be 1 inch or 25 mm
most wheel nuts will be 6 sided so although a multi sided socket (12 points) will fit a six sided socket is better it the nut is tightened to high tension

2004 ford explorer tire bushing on front tires, when taken off cant see where to lube them? does anyone know??? Leave me a comment at [email protected]

There are no "tire bushings". There is a complete front wheel bearing assembly that if bad, will need to be replaced. There are also no lube fittings on any of these assembly's. You need to remove the entire brake assembly, rotors, calipers, and caliper mount just to get to the nut for the front wheel bearing. Then you have to take cotter pin out of the main nut on the end of the axle, and take off the nut locking nut, you will need a 32mm socket, (if memory serves me correctly) to take the axle nut off. Then there will be 3 bolts on the back side of the axle housing that will need to come out, unplug your electronic brake wire, and the wheel bearing should fall right out.
