Question about 1990 Ford F350

Switched to rear tank pump wasn't running. removed rear fuel pump. switched to front tank and started ran and stopped won't start. rear pump is off and the lines are open.

Jump over relay on the ground side of relay with the ign. on because of the start & run curcuit in the computer activates the fuel pump relay. then you can hear the pumps.

SOURCE: 1989 ford e 150 fuel poblem

check the module located on the side of the distributor. I have had that problem and that was the ticket. Fords are common for that sort of failure.

SOURCE: sense i ran the rear fuel tank compleatly empty

no both taks have there own pump inside the tank, when you run a tank empy the fuel pump sucks up some of that nasty sentiments in the bottom of the tank, this will sometimes burn out a pump, there is however only one fuel filter located on the drivers side along the fram near the drivers door, however if tank 1 still works it is not the filter causing the problem

You will need to check for spark disconnect a sparkplug wire at the distributor and leave a 1/4 air gap,crank the engine, do you see a spark,if you have spark then solve for no fuel this can stem from a needed fuel pump that has failed.

Your problem may be one of the following:
First check or just replace the fuel filter. Usually located under the car in front of the rear axle, drivers side.
Next, the fuel pump may be worn out. Usually they get loud or stop working (running).
Next, check the fuel pressure regulator. Usually located on the front fuel rail, drivers side.
Is the vacuum line attached? Not leaking or rotted?
Also, do you smell a strong fuel odor when it won't start? May be one or more stuck-open injectors, or the coil pack is bad.
Checking these in the order listed will more than likely fix your problem.
The clicking noise indicates the battery can no longer run the starter, which also means the fuel pump won't run either.

It could be a fuel issue. How old is the fuel filter? Can you hear the pump run for a few seconds when you turn the key on? Try turning the key to ON without trying to start engine three times waiting for the pump to stop running each time. Then try to start the engine. If it starts, Its a form of Vapor lock caused by the extreme heat we have had lately, and a weak fuel pump.

If none of this works, try a new fuel filter first. From there have someone check the fuel pressure regulator and then the pump. If you are in need of a new pump, take my word for it and spend the money to get one from a Dealer, and not from your favorite parts store. Most parts store parts are made in China and they are JUNK.

you will need to replace the front intank fuel pump. the check valve in the pump has failed and the rear pump is pumping fuel into other tank ,

I have a 1988 Ford F250 with the 460 engine and duel tanks it is factory fuel injected.....the front tank ran out of gas so I switched it to the rear tank( the same as many times before) the truck died and...


The fuel pump relay and the oil pressure switch as well. The oil pressure switch runs power to the fuel pump when you first start it
When the oil pressure reaches operating range the relay takes over
They are both inexpensive so replace both of these parts to be safe and kill two birds with one stone. If one goes out the other will soon enough

My 1994 f250 will not start when the fuel tank toggle switch is on the front tank. it runs fine on the rear tank, im thinking clogged fuel filter or possibly fuel pump stopped working. where do i find the...


the problem is the fuel pump inside the front tank is defective, it is not a fuel filter, the fuel from both tanks fuel pumps runs through the same filter

1996 ford f150 with two tanks. Truck has been running fine and normal til today. Wouldn't start, but when I switched tank from front to rear it started fine and ran fine.Any ideas?Thanks


You may have run out of gas in the front tank, but the gauge may have been reading the rear tank or the front sender is stuck. Is the fuel line switched electrically or manually controlled? How are the gauge connections switched?
