Would a crank shaft sensor being bad make a car not pick up speed

Aimee, It is possible the crankshaft sensor is faulty when engine performance deteriorates. Have vehicle scanned for trouble codes, diagnosed and estimate for repair. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Wheres crankshaft sensor located

which engine,?
why not post symptoms and not guess causes.?
CKP is the name for this part.
was introduced in 1996 here. and up to 2006 in other countries.

the 2.0L the CKP sensor is behind the flywheel (must pull transmission and flywheel to get to it)
ive posted the photo of that here, on fixya 5 times. searches work.
or is the engine the V6? 2.5 (H25 H27engine)

did you know the PCM if scanned will report bad CKP every time.!
even cranked?
same is true if the CAM sensor fails, at end of CAM>

the V6 engine the CKP sensor (crank) is at 7pm facing from
of the engine crank pulley housing on front if engine at front of crankshaft.
if have FSM on both engines, if stated.
use a scan tool and see the errors.
the errors will tell you what sensor is failing if in fact they are.
the tool is as cheap as $10

ah heck,
ill do G16g engine too (USA) the CKP sensor is at
6pm below the crank-pulley on the pan flange,
all USA 1996 and newer. not true in other countries.
some have no CKP at ALL, A FACT.

A failed crank sensor will not allow the engine to start, it will crank but not run. If the crank sensor is faulty (intermittently lose the signal) , it may run but the engine will die out as soon as the signal from the sensor to the ECM is lost. If a die out (after the engine was running) is the problem, check the terminals at the sensor to make sure there is a tight fit to the mating terminals of the harness and look for any rub through of the harness allowing it to short to a metal engine component. if OK, replace the sensor

Symptom of bad crankshaft sensor on 2000 yukon denali

A crank sensor will usually fail and set a trouble code in the computer.
Once the engine starts the ignition gets a signal from the cam sensor and uses the crank sensor as a reference point.
If the crank sensor fails it generally keeps the engine from starting.

Symptoms of cam sensor 99 cavalier

The Camshaft Position Sensor and the Crankshaft Position Sensor can exhibit some of the same symptoms. Checking the Sensor's output is the best way to determine which has failed, but this won't work on an intermittently failing sensor, unless you can monitor the sensor output with the vehicle running.

Failing Symptoms:
Intermittent stalling, but starts right back up
Sometimes, longer than normal cranking times
Check engine light P0340

Failed Symptoms:
Check engine light P0340
No start, no spark

Where is the crank shaft positioning sensor located on a 01' Cherekee Sport with a 4 liter? What are the symptoms of a faulty Crank shaft positioning sensor?

Look at the area around the crankshaft pulley. It's bolted to the block and senses the crank position. If it fails, You won't have an ignition spark. Good Luck, Ned
