The light may have to be turned off with a scan tool. A misfire can happen once or twice and then vanish - maybe a single bad fuel pulse into the cylinder caused it. If it happens consistently then you'll need to look at it. For now though, have the light turned off and don't sweat it.

Check engine light came on ,when wife didn't turn gas cap three clicks ,how do i get it to go out

It can take a while for that to go away, If it was not the gas cap then it wont go away, autozone could have cleared the code and it would have gone away. You can clear the code by removing the fuse for the ecm or unhooking the battery, otherwise it may take 3 to 7 starting cycles to reset.

Found a crack in the exhaust manifold

transmission solenoid and misfire code unrelated
but need looking into
02 sensor should be fixed with replaced 02 sensor
egr code only if crack is close by

cast iron zorst manifolds
if the crack takes up when engine is running
not urgent
when ready source
a used manifold without a crack from a wrecker
cracks in cast iron zorst manifolds cant be welded

or buy (extractors )metal exhaust manifold
if they crack... they can be welded

My check engine light is on in my 05 Tarus. The idle starts to get crazy and as a result the car wants to buck. Drives fine on the Hwy. Now when coming to stop lights and such it is stalling. I took it to...

It would have been interesting to get the fault codes. Even if they may look confused, the codes related to the O2 sensor activity and reporting mixture problems may help understanding the nature of the problem.

If the troubles are only when idle check first vacuum system. A vacuum system leak will result in extra air being pumped in the engine. The extra air will give you a lean mixture. The lean mixture may cause misfire that results in rich mixture as the unburned fuel is detected through the O2 sensors in the exhaust system. A small vacuum leak will mostly give troubles when idle, as the vacuum makes a biggest difference at slow rpm.

If vacuum is OK check IAC (idle air control), PCV (positive crank ventilation) and EGR systems. The first one will only give troubles when idle. The last two usually affect driving as well. Check also the O2 sensors.

Check air intake and sensors installed in the air intake (MAF and AIT). Check fuel pressure just in case the problem is a bad fuel pressure regulator (pump is fine). Check injectors.

Among the codes you probably have misfire. Check injection, spark plug and wires. Distribution problems result in misfire and usually return rich codes.

There are more faults that may give idle problems but the ones listed above are among the most common problems.
