Usually it goes into one of the freeze plug holes. I would have a qualified shop install it.They are going to replace the coolant at the same time.

In one of the freezeout plug holes on the right side of your engine (passenger side) to keep the cord away from your steering shaft.Punch out the brass freezeout plug and remove the whole thing and install the heater if it is that style.

Are the frost plugs threaded on 2002 Yukon GMC 5.3 engine block

As far as I know, it has regular knock in freeze plugs. I recently used a block heater that installs in lower radiator hose. Easy to install and use. I ordered it from autozone. It is available in a few different hose diameters.
Otherwise you will have to drill and tap existing freeze plug
Hope this helps

I need to install a block heater on my 2002 Yukon as there isn't a factory block heater installed. Where on the block do I install, and does it matter which plug location I use??

Gasoline or diesel? Not all vehicles have a block heater provision. There is a generic heater that you can install in the lower radiator hose.

its a possibility. or heater matrix is blocked up ( usual suspect ) remove thermostat and/or hose. undo radiator bleed key ( if has one ) and let a hosepipe run through it for 20 mins or so and see if it clears it.

On the V8 engines it should be at the back of the block under the distributor I have also seen them down next to the oil filter on rare ocassions.
