Could be the head gasket is about to blow. If you have a turbo then this also could be on the way out.

What caused white smoke from exhaust?

Generally, white smoke is engine coolant burning. If it only happened for a few seconds, you may have leaked some on the exhaust pipes.
I would check the engine oil and coolant levels with the engine cold, and then look for coolant leaks.

And why would you drive any vehicle that loses coolant?

White smoke out exhaust is coolant & a blown head gasket

My ford escort 1998, started smoking badly from

Hi:
If the smoke is whitish in color, and just started doing this suddenly, then most likely you have a leaking head gasket, and it is letting coolant get in your cylinder, and possibly oil into your coolant. I am not sure about the noises you are hearing, but you should have your car checked out as soon as possible, or your engine could be permanently damaged, or it could be already.

My 1994 Camaro v6 3.4 liter has a coolant leak and consumes much more gas than normal; also, it seems to not have its power fully engaged when driving.

Check for white-grayish smoke at the ear end from the exhaust, especially if you are losing coolant but can't find puddles under the car. Your symptoms point to a head gasket problem. You can do a visual inspection on the plugs for inconsistencies in dampness and color fo clues. Running a compression test on all cylinders will tell you for sure.

Morning White Smoke At Start-up (2003 4cyl Camry)

This problem is common but often over looked. Moisture vapor is a grayish white color but it dissipates very quickly. Smoke that is grayish white is caused specifically from burning oil. The problem you have is a small seal called a valve seal. It is very common in cars that sit a fair amount of the time. The seal gradually starts to leak and allow tiny drops of oil to drip into the combustion chamber. When the engine is started then it smokes until the oil is burned. Due to the amount of time that your car smokes after start tells me that the leak is very small. That is why there is no oil consumption. This is not going to harm the car unless it becomes very bad and then the only thing that would happen is more smoke and fouled plugs. You can start using a heavier weight oil and add an oil treatment to the oil when you have it changed. This may evin stop it all together. Hope this answered your question. Please rate this solution if you think it has helped. Good luck and thanks cj2176.

Will not start

It can be a bad distributor or bad distributor cap, the while smoke can be because of no-spark the engine becomes flooded and as the gas burns off the exhaust is rich thus the smoke (maybe a grayish white in color) and the 02 sensors may be turning on the check engine light. When the vehicle is not starting the next time it shuts off check for spark and get back to me. Good Luck
