Putting convertible top down on a Maserati Biturbo

I cannot figure out how to properly put the top down on my 1986 Maserati Biturbo convertible. It will only go half way down, then gets stuck. It is a manual top also. Thank you in advance for any help on this you can give! Roger

The convertible top motor and release lever are in the luggage compartment.
From the Bentley manual, the following general procedure is suggested in order to close the top in an emergency situation.
Main motor. To release the top linkage from the motor, lift the left corner of the rear seat to access emergency release handle.
It is then possible to push the top manually to a near closed position. In case of the semi-automatic top, simply attach and lock the front latches.
Front latches. Once the fully automatic convertible top has been released from the motor and manually pushed to near-closure, emergency latching of the top is possible by using the S-shaped hex key provided in the emergency tool kit(attached to the trunk lid underside).
First, remove the the plastic cover over the latch motor in the front bow of the convertible top.
Next, use the hex key from the tool box to crank the front latches shut.

The most common reason for this is low hydraulic fluid. The noise is probably the pump running while empty. When fluid id present it dampens that noise. Behind the rear seat is the combination motor/pump/reservoir. With the top in the DOWN position, fill the reservoir with ATF and cycle the system a few times as far as it will go. Repeat until the reservoir will take no more fluid. If that works, it is only a patch fix. You must now inspect the lines, motor and cylinders for leaks. The fluid does not evaporate. CAR HAS NO POWER WHEN I TRY TO ACCELERATE


Could be lots of things, like clogged catalytic converter, bad plug wires, timing off, etc., but I suspect this may be a bad bearing on the turbo charger. It they don't spin, they cause blockage.

Where is the inertia switch located


The Maserati Biturbo inertia cutoff for the fuel pump is in the trunk on the upper right. Just follow the wires back from the fuel pump. There is a red button on top to reset. If it goes bad, just unscrew it and shake it vigorously to loosen the ball inside.

I loose power in 2nd gear when I floor it on my 1985 biturbo


The gearbox can not cause the engine to lose power. Loss of power when flooring it usually is fuel starvation from a clogged fuel filter. But a bad turbo charger bearing, bad plug wire, timing off, or clogged catalytic converter will also do this.

I have a maserti biturbo and i was wonering which way the fuel flows wether it would go through air conditioner pipe to the fuel pressure regulator and then into the injectors or does it go the other way...


I've never heard of fuel going thru the A/C lines! But normally it is fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filter, injectors, pressure regulator back to fuel tank. This is how it works on my Porsche, Jaguar and Alfa Romeo. Good luck!

I have an 85 biturbo es and it is not getting spark out of the disturbutor cap it is getting fire out of the coil it has a new cap and rotor button please help


How do you know it's not getting fire out of the cap? are you sure the wire from the coil to the cap is good. High voltage has no problem getting across from the rotor to the terminals for each cylinder inside the cap as long as the rotor is pointing to the cylinder your checking, moisture inside the cap is the only thing that could misdirect the spark, make sure the cap is clean and dry and make sure your new rotor and cap are the right ones by comparing them with the old parts. Was it not firing before you got the new parts?

Need to reset the soft top on a maserati spyder


Manual roof procedure
The procedure in the manual is just for closing the top.
A) Turn key to OFF for several seconds to bleed off hyd pressure.
B) Turn key to MAR (full electrical, but before start)
C) Remove cap on bulkhead behind the right-hand seat and use flat head screw driver to unfasten the hyd unit valve in order to relieve the oil pressure in the circuit.
D) Remove the cap on the bulkhead behind the left-hand seat and using screwdriver or allen wrench press until the top covering (panel behind roll bars that covers the convertible top well) until the panel's locks are released - you may have to tap the wrench to release the locks.
E) Lift the top covering manually and keep it open while extracting the top from its well.
F) Remove top from well until the front part is near the windshield frame.
G) Lift the rear part of top (rear window) upwards and lower the top covering until the hooks are resting on their respective locks.
H) While still keeping rear part of convertible top lifted upward press Button 1 to attach the top covering locks.
Button 1 is the forward one
Button 2 is the rear one.
I) Make sure locks are fastened. if not - try pushbutton 1 again. If necessary repeat D and H
J) Rest rear part of convertible top on top of covering.
K) At front of convertible top, open (deploy) the top's hooks by using allen wrench to turn the pin mechanism. (located in center of front headliner)
L) Press top unto windshield frame and use wrench to lock the hooks.
M) Press the rear of convertible top, so hooks on rear top insert into respective slots and press Button 2 to secure.
N) Keep Button 2 pressed until hooks properly fasten.

If the top is still tightly latched at the front, you can just start at step "G":
While holding the back of the top in the air, and the "top cover" resting down on its "hooks", press button 1 until it seats well.
Then lower the back of the top down to mate its "hooks" and press it down while holding button 2 until the top seats well.
