SOURCE: Third Brake light in Hyundai Sonata

I had the same issue. It's pretty much impossible to fix it as a consumer. My mechanic didn't even know how to do it, so I was forced to take it the the dealership. They do it and it takes them about 40min. If I can recall right, it took them this long because they said it's a pain to get to and I believe had to unassemble the top part of the trunk. It cost about $10-$15.

SOURCE: My third brake light dosen't work on my chevy s10 94'

I had a similar problem with my 1994 S-10 LS extended cab. Both tail brake lights worked fine. I removed the 3rd brake light cover and tested for voltage at the steel center of the two rivets and found the positive (driver side) negative (passenger side) were good. I checked the two metal strips that send power to bulbs and found the positive side was open. Seems the flared side of the rivet was not making contact with the metal strip. I bucked the rivet with a punch and hammer and it took care of the problem.

Third brake light does not work after changing the bulbs

If some of the lights work then you probably don't need to change the light assembly. My first guess would be a burnt out fuse. Look for the fuse box and remove the cover. Usually on the inside of the cover it will have a diagram for all the fuses and you can find the one for the brake lights. Some vehicles have relays that are fried and these may be under the hood. Just look for a black box which contains electrical relays and other fuses. The last thing I can think of is a switch that is right above the brake pedal. When you apply the brake a small plastic or metal extends and this is what makes your brake light come on. www.lightdeal.co.uk

1999 Tercel rear light bulb replacement. Snap off 2 black caps to pull back carpet. Remove 2 screws on outside of trunk at the edge of trunk lid. The light fixture will loosen up. Sqeeze the tongs on the square white plastic plug on the inside and push plug through hole. You may have to give the light fixture a tug. Turn bulb holder and pull it out. Pull out bulb and put in new one.
