Question about 2003 Dodge Durango

I have a 2001 Durango and the brake light fuse keeps blowing. I've had it in to the dealership 3 times and nearly $500 later they still have no clue. It CAN'T be that difficult, any suggestions?

It is very possible shorted wiring or circuit, inspect every single light bulb and connectors for water corrosion, sorry but i would help you more if i have it in my shop, or whoever help you, have him inspect circuit while applying brake pedal this will help him trace source of shorted circuit

I would say a break in the wiring obviously between the foot petal and the break lights. it could even be a short in your traler plug were it connects to the harness. its tuff to say with out looking at it. good luck.

Brake light fuse keeps blowing in my 1997 Suburban only when towing trailers.

If the fuse blows on different trailers then it's all down to the vehicle. You either have incorrect wiring on the vehicle, a short OR the fuse is not of a high enough value to cope with the additional brake lights? You could try removing all the trailer bulbs EXCEPT the brake lights - e.g. if it's trying to power up the indicators too? That would stop the fuse blowing...... OR remove the brake bulbs from the vehicle & see if it operates the trailer without blowing...... Check the total wattage of ALL the brake lamps & see if the fuse is actually of a high enough rating? Be aware though that increasing the value of the fuse could cause damage elsewhere! As a rough guide a 25 watt bulb will pull around 2 amps at 12 volts - so 4 bulbs may pull up to 8 amps & clearly blow a 5 amp fuse! If in doubt take it to an auto electrician...... The wiring needs to be correctly protected!

Every time the car is started and we press the brake the # 10 fuse blows this is A 2001 NEON 3

Do the brake lights work on this vehicle? I was asking this because if the #10 fuse is for hte lights, this might be where the problem lies.

If the #10 fuse is blowing, maybe a wire has become shorted to ground in the brake light circuit.

Good luck on this repair.

No tail lights/instrument lights on 2001 Ford Focus Wagon

Your problem is you have a Hot Wire touching ground.I know this for sure! The quwstion is where is it?the cause of the problem. It can be fixed but you would have to have a lot of patience.Try using your nose, sniff out the smell of burned copper under the dash or in the trunk area if you can smell it you can find it.Up the rating of the fuse go 15 then 20 then 25 see if it still blows it shoud. I wished I were near you man I love these problems.Good luck!

Brake lights are not working and its not a fuse.

I had a 2001 Dodge Caravan that had the same problem, It would blow all 3 brake lights for no aparrent reason, when I would replace them sometimes the old bulbs looked as if they had a Huge surge of power to them ( glass was completely black) Can't explain it. Dealer couldn't explain it either. I traded it off.
