Question about 2005 Kia Rio
I was driving on the freeway and the accelerator stopped working after 20 mins of driving. i think the engine just turned off. I had a full tank of gas, water, and oil (and the battery is practically new). I pulled over to the side and all the lights on the dashboard came on. The key was stuck in the ignition but eventually got it out.
I got it towed to my house. When I tried turning it on again it just makes a clunk and doesnt start at all. What might be wrong?
Some manufactures offer extended warranty, check to see if yours is current. It sounds very serious, I suspect that the timing chain/belt has come off, the clunk you hear is the piston moving up to hit an open valve, don't try turning it anymore untill a mechanic can confirm, I have seen a valve crack a piston from them trying to crank it with a broken timing chain. I'm sorry to bear the bad news, Hope I'm wrong, let me know what happens. Good luck
