Question about GMC Jimmy

1 Answer

I have a 2001 Jimmy. Frequently when I try to start it the dash board lights come on when I turn the key and then it goes dead. Nothing electrical works. If I disconnect the battery positive lead for a few seconds something resets and the truck will then start. Recently it even died at highway speed, causing the loss of power steering and brakes. Any Suggestions?

Sounds like there might a draw somewhere or else a bad alternator...and when you're driving, its not charging up your battery and you drive off the battery...when you turn you radio and accessories on, then it has no output...perhaps check for draw first, then check alternator.

Fuel guage goes to empty as i turn key to start engine 2001 gmc jimmy no start

Sounds like you have a bad ignition switch, not the lock cylinder but the switch itself. Electrical power should continue to go to the gauges and to the ignition module even with the key in the Start position.

Turn key to start and nothing

Not if you left your headlights on all night and completely drained the battery. if it is dead, try to jump it, if you get some sort of power with the jumpers attached, go buy a new battery.

2001 Chevy Impala won't start

If the battery has gone dead, it could cause the security system to go into full lock-up mode. If it has locked up the accessories will work after the battery is charged back up , but the power to the starter will be cut off and it wont turn over. You need to do the 30 minute learn procedure. A GM dealer will print it out for you and you can do it yourself. It's very simple if you follow the procedure exact. hope this helps and good luck.

1996 grand am wont start

the battery is dead, it's as simple as that. the battery only needs a tiny bit of power to turn on the interior lights and panel lights, but it does not have enough to dis-engage park lock out electric solenoid.
