1994 chevy s10 4 cyl, starts and then immediately dies, new plugs wires air filter

Dear Ron, I need clarification as to exactly when the problem started and exactly what it does. Was the vehicle running normally up to the point when you replaced the Plugs, Wires and Air Filter? The first question is: When was the Fuel Filter Replaced if ever? The second question is: Are all of the Plug Wires fully seated in the Distributor Cap and on the Spark Plugs? The third question is: Is the vehicle equipped with a Carburetor or Fuel Injection? Forth Question is: Did you replace the Spark Plugs, Ignition Wires and related parts with AC Delco components or aftermarket components. It has been my experience that AC Delco components work best on GM Vehicles. If the Fuel Filter has not been changed it may not pass enough fuel to allow the engine to run beyond starting. Another area of concern is that the Ignition Circuit may not have a connection in the RUN Position. I would check this before proceeding with any further testing. This can be simply accomplished using a Test Light. A factory Service Manual usually has wiring diagrams to help you diagnose what wire is HOT in the RUN Position versus what wire is HOT in Start Position. I strongly believe that this is where your problem is. Some Manuals are available from Public Libraries or On-Line. FastestRobe

Check your wires, make sure they are on right, not burned by accident, recheck your rotor and cap. I don't know your mechanical ability, I'm not trying to act like your stupid. Turn your key forward on your truck and listen for your fuel pump hum. If its not, could be your fuel pump. If it does hum when is the last time you changed your fuel filter? If that all checks out, check your intake, and make sure all connections are tight. Have a buddy turn over the truck and you look into the carburator and see if fuel is spraying in. I know it's fuel injected but you can still see the gas pouring in. I had a 1990 s-10 and my father had a 1997. You can also have your buddy turn over the truck and have the plug wire about an inch from the plug and see if your getting a spark. BE CAREFUL if you do that. I hope I helped you

Sounds like it's not getting gas. Could be fuel pump.

Check the computer controlled idle valve or motor. And clean it and the air passages it controls with a sensor safe cleaner. Throttle body cleaner or intake cleaner made by CRC (at Napa) works good. Check for a dirty air filter.

1996 chevy cobolt 6 cyl. "engine power reduced" idols extremly rough shaking entire engine. When pushing on gas pedal car will sputter acting like it wants to die.

It sounds like you have a fuel issue or spark issue. Pull your spark plugs and see how they look. If they look fine then test the fuel pump. You could try to run to fuel system cleaner through the fuel system and see if there is an improvement in idle. Could be any of the following problems,

coil
spark plugs
spark plug wires
fuel filter
fuel pump
injectors
air filter

Check the easy stuff like plugs, wires fuel pump and air filter first.

At this point, replacing the plug wires is a great idea, especially if they are worn or over due for replacement, Always start with the basics...then proceed with diagnostics with possible engine management causes.
