Question about 1990 Ford F150

New fuel filter, new timing chain, new distributor pick-up, new throttle postioningsensor,new fuel pump,matians 41 lbs. of if you pour gas in it it runs, but wont run on it's own. Can you help me?

Replace the module,it,and the pick up coil work together to pulse the injectors,and it does this threw the computer.

a gauge from your local parts house.
Plus make sure all the ground wires are attached (bell housing

Truck doesnt start in the morning or after long periods of sitting. I have 40 lbs fuel pressure on the rail with key on and 60 while running. pour in a little gas in the throttle body and it starts right...

you should have 60 -66 psi there is a updated fuel pump with a new connector to splice in i would buy a ac delco pump and make sure you check the fuel filter first and if it does end up being the pump its a good habit to but a new fuel filter with it.

I'm sorry for your troubles but have they checked for a plugged exhaust pipe after the cats or a plugged fuel filter? I had car in my shop some years ago that did the same thing as yours and it turned out to be a collapsed pipe between the cat and the muffler. some G.M. cars had a double pipe system and the inside pipe would collapse and shut off the exhaust from coming out. Have they disconnected the rear pipe after the cat to see if the engine responds better and changed the fuel filter? If it's fuel injected, did they check the preasure regulator by disconnecting the vacuum hose to it to see if it made the preasure go up? The fuel pump in the tank may not be giving the engine enough fuel preasure any more. Put your hand at the exhaust pipe while its running and see if it feels like its coming out o.k. The sock filter at the tank pick-up may be clogged also. These are things I would have checked before doing all of those expensive repairs that were done when most times it is'nt going to fix it. After almost 20 years, some of the original, never - removed pieces are going to go bad. Like the tank filter and exhaust pipes.

This usually indicates a broken timing belt/chain. This can be verified by doing a compression test. You can rent a tester from most auto parts stores. Disconnect the distriutor, remove all spark plugs. Install the tester in one spark plug hole, hold the throttle wide open, then crank the engine for 5 seconds. You should get around 180 psi. Anything lower then 150 and I would suspect the timing belt/chain.

check the fuel preasure regulator, using a vacuum pump check the unit and see if it holds vacuum if not replace unit

Motor stalls when driving then starts and stalls right away.

Replace the distributor's magnetic pickup located inside the distributor surrounding the distributor shaft, the only other thing thankfully on this ignition system if memory serves me on the f 150 straight six 300 cu inch is the dura spark ignition control box, of course do the obvious tune up parts replacement dist.cap rotor,plug , sparkplugs before spending the $40.00 - $50.00 bucks on the dist.. pick up, you may have a weak a fuel pump check for adequate fuel pressure at carb 7 - 10 lbs.
