Shouldn't have to....just put gas in it...and please don't run no additives in your engine/tank...your engine is not designed to burn the additives that are available on the after market...

You can't do any testing, until you have a battery
that will take and hold a charge

Then you move on to testing the Alternator, then
Fuel Pressure & continue on with other testing

2002 Sunfire with 2.2 ECOTEC Car acted like it ran out of gas. Would crank, run roughly a few seconds, then again acted like it ran out of gas. The next day and the next 3 days it has performed...

have the fuel pressure and volume tested with a gage.this sounds and acts like a fuel pump problem.check the fuel filter as well and replace anyways.when it won`t start but cranks can you hear the fuel pump running.listen at the fuel filler neck with the gas cap off.if you can`t listen under the car at the fuel tank you should hear it running/if not hit the gas tank and if the car starts then the pump needs replacing.you should check to make sure you are getting spark at the spark plugs to eliminate an ignition problem but i think its fuel.

Try turning key to on (not start) 3 or 4 times first, ( to prime it more) then try start and see if it runs a little longer. If it's been sitting there is a chance gunk in tank has plugged up filter as well. Make sure you add some fresh gas, as well as some "Heet" to remove any moisture that may have collected as well in tank. If it continues to not start and run, you may need to have a fuel pressure test done to see if pressure is where it should be. Pump getting noisy is also a sign that it may be weak. If pressure is low, change filter first and try it. If no improvement, you'll need a new pump. You'll want a new filter on there if pump needs replacing anyway, so try changing it first, it just might do the trick.

Ran out of gas then filled up now car wont start. I have a 97 pontiac sunfire

The electric fuel pump located in the gas tank can and do burn out, from running out of gas. If it won't run, the fuel pressure will need to be checked to make certain it is the fuel pump. A fuel filter can get plugged and the motor will quit running, but you are sure that you ran out of gas?

Where is the transmission dipstick on 1998 Pontiac Sunfire?

This model doesn't have a trans dipstick. To check trans fluid level there is a plug on the right side/passenger side above the transmission pan about 2 to 3 inches. The plug has an 11 or 12 mm head on it. Remove this plug while vehicle is running and at operating temperature if fluid comes out of the where the plug was then the level is adequate. To add transmission fluid there is a red or black plastic cap on top of the transmission on the driver side. You will need a transmission funnel to add to it if fluid is need.

5 speed manual transmission wont shif gears while running

You probably have air in the system. You need to bleed the air out of the system so that it will disengage your clutch. The air in the system is compressing and, therefore, the slave cylinder can't reach the full extension.
