Question about 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

Idle to high, and car is driving itself.

Well, my car is idling way too high. Nobody can figure out whats wrong with it theyve checked wires sensors and I've even had my computer changed. It doesn't want to down shift either. The engine is constantly going vroom vroom vroom even when I stop. Once I get it to about 35-40 MPH it drives itself (like it's on cruise control). It will excelerate, but the only way I can stop it is by pressing the break.

Cant seem to get the idle are timing locket in seem to idle to high the check engine light stays on

Find out what code the CEL is throwing. It could just be that your idle needs to be reset. Or you got the timing wrong when putting your car back together and it's running excessively hot.

Engine misses at idle only, check engine light goes on and off

I have a 2001 Cadillac DTS with the exact same problem. Nobody including the dealer could figure out what was wrong. I replaced all the coils and the problem stopped happening for a while. Eventually I sold the car for parts. Feh! Very disappointed in Cadillac.

Is the wiring good going to the O2 sensors? Maybe just look the car over and see if you have any bad grounds. They can do weird things. Could be a bad ICU.

1994 gmc safair 4.3 wont run at idle and bad enough at high rpm you can't drive it. replaced plugs,wires,cap.roter,o2 sensor, used throttle body, used computer, new fuel pump, new fuel filter, can't figure it...

Is the "service engine" light on at all?
If so, what codes are present.
Have you checked the EGR valve. If the valve is stuck, the engine will idle very poorly. You can remove it and clean the carbon deposites and make sure it moves freely.
The EVAP purge solenoid will also cause an idle problem but should show up as a service engine light problem.
Let me know.
