Question about 1997 Ford Escort

1 Answer

Just switched a dead fuel pump in a 1997 Ford Escort and changed the filter as well. But it seems like there is still no fuel getting to the injectors. I can hear the pump run but no fuel is getting to the injectors. I also tried quick start to but that did not work either. Any suggestions are appreciated

If it doesnt start with quick start then the problem is not fuel related. You have an ignition issue like a bad crans sensor or ignition module or even possible a blown fuse if you have a ECM or ING fuse

I doesnt matter if the pump is working or not. If the car will not start with quick start then the ignition if not working. A fuel pump can turn and not pump gas, Even a new replacement. Have seen seen this many times. You really need to hook up a pressure gauge to confirm. The injectors will not open and squirt if you have a bad crank sensor even tho the pump may turn on. Have you checked compression. Are you sure that your timing belt didnt jump a tooth or 3. Compression and a vacuum test can comfirm its ok. have you checkd for codes yet. This should of been the first thing you did

Where is fuel filter

The last picture below is a picture of The fuel pump inertia switch for a 1997 Ford Escort. it is located inside the trunk immediately below the hole in the trunk side trim on the drivers side. You first should disconnect the electrical connector for the inertia switch. Then start engine and let run till the engine stalls as to relieve the fuel pressure. Make sure to reconnect it after finishing the replacement of the filter.

Have a 2000 ford escort and doesnt seem to be getting fuel has a new fuel pump, fuel filter, and throttle postion sensor any ideas. when i push the fuel pressure to see it used to shoot out fuel now it...

I would test the fuel volume from before the filter and see? If it seems not enough go back and recheck fuel pump job .If it seems ok go foward and check fuel filter and work your way foward.

My 97 ford escort runs fine on 0 solpe roadr. but when I drive uphill it hesitated on acceleration.

It sounds like low fuel pressure to me. Possibly caused by a clogged fuel filter or a weak fuel pump (or both). I would try changing the fuel filter first.

1996 ford escort died when i was driving right after i went over a small pot hole and will not start. It was low on gas..could iy be the fuel filter

Ford vehicles are equipped with a fuel pump cut off switch that will shut power to the fuel pump in the event of a collision. By hitting the pothole, there was probably enough "force" making the switch mistakenly shut off the fuel pump. The switch should be located in the trunk either on the left or right side. Locate the switch and press the reset button. If it clicks when pressed, then the switch was activated. Try starting the car. If it starts, then that was the problem. I own a 1997 Ford Escort and the same thing happened to me...the pothole caused enough "force" thereby the switch took it as an impact. I hope this helps you out.

Location of fuel filter on a 1997 escort

if it (THE FILTER) doesn't say "MOTORCRAFT" on it then they changed it, THE FILTER IS LOCATED UNDER THE HOOD TO REAR OF ENGINE ON DRIVERS SIDE.
