Best way is to remove it, and take it for testing at any autoparts store. If defective, then you simply exchange for a rebuilt. Also make sure your battery cables to the starter-motor are not corroded

Changed starter and nothing works

Charles: Maybe if you watch these videos, they will help: or this one: According to

Problem: Starter failed shortly after installation.
Solution #1: Confirm that you purchased a starter designed to work with your engine's compression ratio. Engines with 11:1 or higher compression generally require a high-torque, gear-reduction starter. Otherwise, the engine will turn over slowly.
Solution #2: Check the position of your starter in relation to your headers. If your starter is continuously heat soaked from exhaust heat, chances are it will fail early. You'll either need a different starter design, or you'll have to install a starter heat shield with your next starter.
Solution #3: Clean the starter mounting surface. Most starters are grounded through the mounting block, and if there is excessive oil or paint on the block, the starter will have a faulty ground. This will cause the starter to pull excessive amps, making it overheat and wear out.

I hope this helps!

Starter click when trying to start new starter install today

If your starter doing nothing after clicking sound, this is telling us the starter is not work. Please check your starter :

1. Voltage input ( it should 12 VDC).If there is power 12 VDC but your engine is not crank/ spin, go check #2 below
2. Check your starter ( its carbon brush==> you may need to clean), starter winding ( check the impedance / resistance ( It should about 0.04 Ohm==> if the value is too far you may use OEM starter and is not the genuine one).

3. If none of above work, kindly return your starter for replacement.

good luck

I replaced my starter on my 85 car and also the silanod last week and now the silnoild works but the starter wont work. the starter wants to stay on all the time? when i took the starter off and...

If starter is staying on "all the time" - your solenoid is bad. Solenoid controls power to starter. Try another solenoid and if problem continues you have a bad ignition switch.

My 2004 330ci won't start, does not turn over. The battery is fine, all electrical in the car work fine, plus trying to jump car does not work & a green light is showing on the battery in the truck....

If the battery is fine, why jump it? Faulty thinking to state or think: all electrical in the car work fine. If it did the starter motor would be turning the engine over. The starter motor work on electrical...not all is fine.

check: 1) 60a starter fuse/relay. 2) voltage to starter when turning key to activate starter motor, this will rule out ignition switch or relay. 3) apply direct voltage to starter motor to detect bad starter motor.

Howdo you check the starterselenoid on a 1991 ford f150 with a multimeter

mcdevito75 here, No real multi meter check on the starter solinoid, it either works or not, if it didn"t work the starter would not work either, you can check the starter though, I reccomend place your multi meter to volts 12 if you can, observe the meter and operate the starter just the starter don"t let the motor start if you can. When the starter is actvated your meter should not go beloe 9--10 Volts, if so, starter is OK, if meter goes below 9 Volts, starter could be bad. Make sure you have a good battery also.

Key turns but starter doesn't turn over at all.

Hi, if you give the starter motor a good tap with a hammer to get it to work, if that works then you will need a new startermotor very soon, good luck.

The starter was working but not starting the car,

Well first you have to remember that starters are basically the same on all engines. I've worked on all of them. If you hear it spin up the starter but nothing happens, then it is probably a bad solenoid. It happens more than you would think. When you hit your ignition, your starter spins up, but that little solenoid is the one that is supposed to push the little gear on the end of the starter out to the flywheel and lock into place to start the ignition process. But if it does not work then the starter will just sit where it is and spin and not do anything.
