Thanks thundergod for your quick response. Greatly appreciated.

I bought the RHD 98 cherokee sport back in May. The people that owned it before obviously didn't maintain it. With 144000km(roughly 87000 miles)on it, I thought it shouldn't be to difficult to fix up. The Tranny was working just fine then. I went out, started it up and drove to work but noticed that it had a sluggish start as if it were in a high gear. I was baffled. When I pulled up to the stop light it wouldn’t shift down. Got to work turned it off. In the evening after work, got back in it and drove away and it worked normal again. So I took it to my friend and we checked the oil level and it was really high, so I drained some fluid and it seemed to work better after that, but now its doing it again. I have to manually put it into 1st to start then when I get enough momentum I shift it into 3rd then D. It seems to skip 2nd altogether.

Could be as simple as throttle cable adjustment or replacement, or a bad converter that won't disengage when you stop. You weren't specific enough in your post to get more specific in your answer. If adjustment of cable or changing the fluid does not help you will need a "hands on" diagnosis by a competent shop. Aside from what I mentioned, there are no "user friendly" repairs that can be done.

I'd be willing to bet that it's loaded with varnish. Sounds a lot like the solenoids in the valve body are sticking. Problem is that if this is the case, most times using any kind of solvent will also damage the internal clutches. I'd try changing the fluid and using an additive such as that made by Lucas. You may need to change it more than once before it helps. Otherwise, you may need to at least have the valve body cleaned out and perhaps have the solenoids replaced. If you have a trans shop with a good reputation in your area I'd trust their judgment on what's needed. I can't see yours from here so their diagnosis will be more accurate after testing than anything I can tell you.

Where are the shift modules on a 1997 chevy s10 blazer auto tranny the car won't down shift properly into low gear after coming to a complete stop. this is the third transmission for this car.

If this is third tranny ,I would start to begin thinking of a computer problem.I woyld find it hard to beleve that 3 trannys in a row are the fault.

You need to do a full service of the tranny. You need a filter change, and a fell flush of the tranny. Make sure you are using the right tranny fluid for it as well.

Toyota pickup 1988 V6 Auto tranny does not shift into low 1

I guess the best , easiest & cheapest thing to do, right of the start is get fluid & filter changed, and lube all cables & linkages thoroughly, unless that's all been done recently.
