This is rental car, anti-theft was activated with the opening of the door. rear seat release is in the trunk

do you think removing some of the fuses will deactivate the theft system? Do you know which one?

  • jb1109 Nov 19, 2009

yes keys are still in trunk, trunk is electric, not power, no open.

did I say this is rental car? I am trying to help a friend with this remotely. They are stuck with no change of clothes etc everything in trunk in city that isnt home.

Called rental dealer and they said extra key faab is in the TRUNK!

The roadside assistance is attempting to find a key blank at this time to make the key.

If that doesn't work they will get AAA to pull out the seat.

This is going to have to resolve by 9 this morning, that is the interview appointment. Thank you for you help. well worth the membership.

Are you still trying to get the keys out of the trunk? If the locksmith opened the door for you, now you must remove the rear seat, or if you have fold down rear seat, fold it down, to get access to the trunk and get your keys.

Removing fuses will not deactivate the security system.

Are the keys still in the trunk?

OK. We have only a few options here. The car is not going to start until we can get a key. The key has a transponder built into it that sends a digital signal that will reset the security system. No other key will work.

If the locksmith is a certified locksmith, he should be able to use the VIN Number on the car to get key codes to cut a new trunk key. (It will not start the car, but it will open the trunk to get the key that will.)

If the locksmith cannot make a trunk key,The rear seat must be removed to gain access to the trunk.

If this is not possible for your friend to do (It will require some tools) then you might try to contact a local mechanic that can make a service call to come out and remove the seat.

The only other choice is to have the vehicle towed to a Hyundai dealership. They can then cut a new key and reprogram the Engine Control Module to accept this new key.

Is there a way to open the trunk without using the ignition key

If you posted the year make and model, it would be easier to figure this out. Newer cars have a release by the drivers door and also a release in the trunk. There are some cars that the back seats fold down and you can get in the trunk to pull the release. If the car is older the key to the trunk should be a separate key. However some are not. If none if this applies then call a lock smith.

My keys are locked in my trunk. AAA was able to open the door but the alarm is on so there is no power in the car. vw says new key will take 3 or 4 days. I need my car!!! 2013 passat

Ther is a lock at the driver door. The plastic cover where the key insert slot should be pulls off. A lock smith will have a master slide set that would be able to unlock the car. You can access the boot by opening the split fold down rear seats.

you can call a key smith which will come out and get into your trunk but also the key smith could change the lock to the trunk so the same key that opens the doors also opens the trunk.

The battery is dead on my kia amanti and the doors are locked and the key wont open it.

Spray some penetrating oil in the keyhole and try again. will it open the trunk? If your car has the fold down seats with the pass through to the trunk, open the trunk and have someone small crawl into the car and unlock the doors from the inside. Or get someone to give you a jump. With the jumper cables hooked up you should be able to open the door with the remote.

Cant open the trunk

try having someone pull up on the trunk lid while pulling the lever or using the key. sounds like something may have jammed in the lock or the lock striker. this actually happens quite often.

Manual key won't unlock doors or trunk

If not the wrong key, maybe the locks are seized from not being used. Over time with humidity, and lubricants drying up inside of the mechanics of the locks they could seize. When inserting the key the pins are not properly moving in to place to allow the tumbler assembly to turn.

Try using some silicon lubrication. Spray in to the lock. Work the key in and out of the lock a few dozen times before attempting to turn. Then spray in some graphite lock lubricant. Insert the key in and out a number of times. Then tap on the key end with something hard like a pliers or something not to heavy or forceful. Then try turning the key. Jiggle it a bit and moving it in and out. Eventually the pins should normally release and position themselves.

If all of the above does not work, then you will need to get a lock smith to assist. Most likely he will be able to get in to the vehicle so he can remove the locks to service them.
