it doesn't seem to overheat but I am only driving it to and from work and thats about 5 miles round trip. I rattling is loud and is constant from when I start it while I'm driving and when it is idle. I do notice it is not as loud when I am driving. seems to me as if the noise is coming from the back right

your power steering fluid is only clear fluid in there. oil is brown trans is red . coolant / a possibility unless it's green .when this rattling occurs is it in gear / cornering / accelerating / braking / steering . is the ehaust in good shape / is the fan broken in it's plastic housing on the rad ? lots of things could rattle . where does the noise come from, front / back / middle / underside .does the car run hot at all .theres alot of metal shrouds underneath to rattle / make sure it's not just a shroud missing a bolt . ooohhhhhhh rattling valves , and it's getting hot because your low on coolant that could make sense. check the coolant level cold / then hot and if all else fails to find a leak ( throw flour at the area you suspect wet flours sticks out like a sore thumb

Rattling on back corner / hmm . jack up that corner and shake the tire by using a 2x4 about 4 feet long and wedge it under the tire and lift the tire up and down try and get it to rattle . have some one watching . it might be a bad rear strut .it may also be a worn out bushing.

I am guessing the fluid is transmission fluid, the ratteling could be from the drive plate on the torque convertor, the vibration is damaging the front transmission seal, hence the leak. Trans has to be pulled, $4 seal replaced and possible the drive plate replaced from loose bolt damage, plate is about $40 to $80, about 5 hours labour, Hope this helps, Good luck

You may have a few things going on here, it really does need to be inspected to determine the faults, The noise may be as simple as an exhaust bracket has broken, about $8, the leak may have nothing to do with the noise, that may be something as simple as a perished transmission line {hose and clamp $10} Get it looked at to determine future damage, most mechanics won't charge you to have a look. Good luck

SOURCE: the car keeps overheating there is no leaks but

Stop driveing this car until you fix it! Renew the thermostat.
Make sure the cooling fans are coming on. They must come on with the A/C if they work. Or with no A/C they should come on at 212 degrees. This is controled by a radiator cooling fan switch that could be worn out.Its screwed into the intake manifold.
These engines will trap air inside. Some have an air bleeder near the thermostat to help get the air out. With the engine cold take off the radiator cap and fill the radiator also fill the over flow to the cold line. Start the car and let it idle until it starts to warm up.Turn it off and check the radi. again. You need to keep doing this till all the air is out. If its all out you can run the engine with the rad. cap off and it will not over flow.
Unless you have already over heated the engine to much. In that case the noise you heard will not go away .

Leaking clear fluid passenger side front. Car made strange gear like noises before failing to run anymore and the leak at same time occured

Clear fluid leaking on that side suggests it is drainage from the air conditioner. None of the fluids in a car are normally clear.
UNLESS you have a serious antifreeze leak and you have topped it off with clear water.

The strange noise is most likely not related to the water leak unless you have used clear water in the cooling system.

It is too hard to diagnose that noise over the internet. It will need to be examined by someone who has good knowledge of cars.
Good luck with this. Those Neons are usually not too difficult to work on and and treated right, they can run for many years.

Hi. I own a 2004 Buick Rendezvous and I must say, it's the best car I've ever owned. Recently, like within the last 2 months I've had a groaning noise with every left turn. My husband filled...

he filled the PS fluid? it was low? If so it has a leak somewhere, usually the high pressure line. the rattle could be anything, have the front end and steering linkage checked. tie rods, sway bar links, ect.

Chrysler voyager 2.5l diesel fan belt making rattling noise for a day or so now power steering has packed in.Is this a major job or could it be a fluid level problem

Check fluid level first, but if you were hearing rattling, it might be too late to fix with just fluid.

fan belts don't make noise, but the pulleys they are connected to can make the noise you describe.

I wish you luck on fixing the problem.
It may take some resources to do so.

Transfer case making roaring rattling sound

it's possible you might need to just change the trans case fluid.... it's a pretty simple task, i usually do all the small minor work first before i take it to a dealer to fix.... if they said you need a new trans case, but didn't tell you why, more than likely there might be something you could do yourself to make it better... those service men have been working around vehicles long enough, they should be able to tell you exactly what's wrong!
i would also do a tranny fluid change to... some of the noise could be coming from there too -- when you change either fluid, add a little lucas transmission fluid stabilizer, it helps alot with seals and makes the fluid stick to the gears better...
