Question about 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander

1 Answer

I have a 2003 outlander with 132,000 miles on it. There is a "crunching" noise in the rear when going over a bump or when there is a load in the car. I have been told that it was the struts...but...also told it could be bushings. How do I know before they attack my checkbook for unnecessary fixes?

I was told that if you change the rear struts that the front has to be changed at the same time. True or False?

Dry sway bar bushings are the cheapest and most likely fix to this problem. however given the mileage and likely age of the struts on the vehicle wouldnt hurt to replace them even if it doesnt fix your noise.

you are not required to replace all four at 1 time. replacement in pairs in generally how struts are done

Im getting a crunching noise at the rear when going over speed bump

The noise could be due to worn out rear struts( shock absorbers). Have the vehicle looked at at sears, or midas, firestone, etc, and ask to have the rear end checked.

There is a clunking noise coming from the rear underside of my 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander. It is noisy when changing direction particularly when setting off from cold.It is less prominent when the car has...

You could have a worn rear strut which will need to be replaced. Also check some very minor things such as a loose muffler. And, a major ailment could be an extremely worn axle assembly or worn rear end assembly. Also check for things such as loose spring hangers as any small insignificant seeming part that is loose can cause rackets and odd noises and could run into catastrophic failure.

I have 150,000 miles, no problems. I think a front CV or bearing in in need of replacement. I have replaced the front brakes and rotors. Great on the highway.. 20MPG on the freeway..
