Turn off car, take off filler cap for gastank, you should see a fuel pressure connector on the fuel rail release the pressure there, make sure you have a rag over it so you dont get sprayed with gas. that will release the pressure you should probably get this done by a professional though

It is next to impossible not to spill.Even in the garage. That`s why they use spill pans or oil drain cans.Make sure and relieve the fuel pressure. This can be done by removing the fuel pump fuse or relay and start the vehicle and let it run til it dies.this will relieve the fuel pressure and you will spill less gas.Good luck.

New fuel filter leaking

Yes. My guess is that the keeper that locks the gas line to the filter was not properly seated. It is best to buy new keepers. They should not be that expensive and will prevent your car from perhaps catching on fire due to a gasoline leak. Most keepers are made of plastic and will easily bend and get damaged if not installed correctly. Good luck.

WHERE IS THE FUEL FILTER ON A 88 NISSAN PATHFINDER

Fuel Filter REMOVAL & INSTALLATION CAUTION
NEVER SMOKE WHEN WORKING AROUND OR NEAR GASOLINE! MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS NO ACTIVE IGNITION SOURCE NEAR YOUR WORK AREA! 1970-83 Carbureted Engines The fuel filter is located on the right inner fender in the engine compartment. It is a disposable cartridge type.
  1. Using a pair of pliers, expand the hose clamp on one side of the filter, and slide the clamp further down the hose, past the point to which the filter pipe extends. Remove the other clamp in the same manner.
  2. Grasp the hoses near the ends and twist them gently to pull them free from the filter pipes.
  3. Pull the filter from the clip and discard.
  4. Install the new filter into the clip. Push the hoses onto the filter pipes, and slide the clamps back into position. Start the engine and check for leaks. Fig. 1: Fuel filter - 1970-79 85851035.gif
    Fig. 2: Fuel filter - 1980-83 85851036.gif
1984-86 Carbureted Engines The fuel filter is located on the inside of the frame above the left rear spring front shackle. Changing the filter is VERY awkward. Since it is in-line and below tank level, fuel will pour from the fuel lines when they are disconnected from the filter. The only way of preventing this, is to siphon all of the gasoline from the tank before replacing the filter. Another possible method is to clamp and plug the fuel line, but this is not recommended because of the danger of leaking fuel or damage which could occur to the fuel line when clamped. It would, therefore, be a good idea to run the tank almost dry before changing the filter. Once the tank is dry, disconnect the fuel lines at the filter, unbolt the old filter and install a new one. Reconnect the fuel lines, fill the tank, start the engine and check for leaks. Fig. 3: Fuel filter - 1984-86 85851037.gif

Fuel Injected Engines WARNING
Never attempt to remove the fuel filter without first relieving the fuel system pressure!
  1. Release the fuel pressure from the fuel line as follows:
    1. Remove the fuel pump fuse at the fuse box.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. After the engine stalls, crank the engine two or three times to make sure that the fuel pressure is released.
    4. Turn the ignition switch OFF and reinstall the fuel pump fuse.
  2. Loosen the hose clamps at the fuel inlet and outlet lines then slide each line off the filter nipples.
  3. Remove the fuel filter.
  4. Replace the fuel filter. Always be sure to use new hose clamps. Fig. 7: Fuel filter - 1986-88 VG30i 85851038.gif

Need to replace fuel filter

The fuel filter is mounted on the floor pan just in front of the fuel tank Use compressed air or carburetor cleaner to clean any dirt surrounding the fuel inlet and outlet line fittings. Once all the dirt has been removed, twist the two lines a quarter-turn in opposite directions to loosen the fitting. Depress the white plastic quick-disconnect tabs and detach the inlet line from the fuel filter (see illustration [see comment below marked "#2"] ). Note: Have spare rags or a small container to catch or wipe up extra gasoline that will spill from the filter assembly. Use an open end wrench to steady the outlet side of the filter and a flare nut wrench to unscrew the fuel line nut, then separate the outlet line from the filter while noting the installed position of the O-ring. Using a flare nut wrench will help to avoid rounding the corners off of the fuel line nut. Detach the fuel filter mounting bracket bolt and remove the fuel filter. Installation is the reverse of removal. Note: Be sure to install a new O-ring on the outlet line before reassembling. "Squeeze the white plastic quick-disconnect tabs together and pull the inlet line (A) away from the filter, then detach the outlet line (B) from the fuel filter - unbolt the filter mounting bracket to remove the fuel filter".

How do i change the fuel filter in my 1985 cadillac deville (gasoline)

FUEL INJECTED ENGINES The fuel filter on fuel injected vehicles may be located in one of two locations. On all 1976–79 vehicles except the Seville, the filter is mounted in the engine compartment near the fuel pump. On the 1976–79 Seville, and all 1980–85 vehicles, the fuel filter is located on the left side of the chassis just ahead of the rear axle. On 1986–89 vehicles, the filter can be found near the frame, in back of the left front wheel. There are two types of fuel filters used on the gasoline fuel injected vehicles, the one-piece disposable inline filter, used on all 1982–86 250 and 1988–89 273 V8 engines, and the replaceable element type filter used on all the other engines. CAUTION
Fuel is under high pressure: if the steps below are not followed, the fuel could spray out and result in a fire hazard and possible injury.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
  2. Release the pressure from the fuel system:
    • Without pressure fitting: Cars without a pressure fitting in the fuel line, cover the fitting to be removed with a shop towel while loosening so that fuel will be absorbed. Dispose of gasoline properly.
    • With pressure fitting: Locate the pressure fitting in the fuel line and remove the protective cap. Loosely install a special valve depressor (G.M. tool no. J-5420) on the fitting. Wrap a towel around the fitting to block any spray and slowly tighten the tool until the pressure has been relieved.
  3. Replace the filter as follows:
    1. On the replaceable element type filter; the fuel filter element is replaced by unscrewing the bottom cover and removing the filter element. Replace the element and gasket with an AC type GF 157 or equivalent. Hand tighten the bottom cover.
    2. On the in-line disposable type filter; the fuel filter canister is replaced by loosening the fitting on the end of the filter, then use a pair of pliers to expand the clamp on the other end and slide it down past the point where the hose extends over the inlet of the filter. Gently twist and remove the hose, unscrew and remove the fitting. Remove and discard the old filter. Install the new filter into the hose and replace the clamp. Reinstall the fitting, and check for leaks with the engine idling. NOTE: A dry fuel system on cars equipped with EFI/DFI may require a substantial cranking period before starting. Be sure to crank the engine in short bursts, allowing time for the starter motor to cool between each burst. How do i change fuel filter

The car will likely have a fuel filter inline from the gas tank to the engine bay fuel rail, possibly on the drivers side just in front of the rear wheel. I replaced the fuel filter on my 1999 Buick in the following manner. Make sure you are grounded so you ground any static and make sure there are no flames near you. You will spill gasoline from the filter.
Remove the filter from the holder attached to the body
Remove the end which has the fuel line clamp. I used a pair of needle nose pliers and pulled the filter out of the line.
Usingt eh appropriate size wrenches, carefully remove the filter. Replace in the reverse order.

Can i change the fuel filter myself if its not "inline"?

Yes you can. I believe you can!
The Fuek Filter is located above the Fuel Tank. You don' have to remove the Fuel Tank but you do have to slightly lower one side of the Fuel Tank to gain access to the Fuel Filter and hose connection to the Fuel Tank from the Fuel Filter. Slightly lowering the tank requires not removing completely the bolts holding the metal straps.
Take you time. Do this a away from a heating source. Have a Fire extinguisher in the Ready Position (Ring Lock pulled and readily (immediately) available). Do not smoke while changing. Have ventilation and kitty litter to absorb any spilled gasoline. AND Disconnect the negative side of the Battery before starting.

How to remove fuel filter

The mechanic should check first the place where the fuel filters are been placed then there are two connections of fuel lines . The connection of the fuel lines to the gas tank or fuel tank, the connection of the fuel lines to the engine. There are two lock ring that holds the hose and the fuel filter tube to connected to each other. You have to set loose the lock ring ,because its been tighten so that no fuel will spill .Set loose the lock ring and then change the fuel filters .But before you do it make sure that the fuel from the fuel tank will be block or will not spill before changing the filters . Since there are two fuel filters you have to do it twice . the two fuel filters are the primary filter and the secondary filter.

Where is the fuel filter located on 86 pontiac fiero?

hope this helps

first disconnect the fuel pump and run the car till the fuel system is emptied--you will spill gas everywhere if you dont. 4 cyl engine has the filter in front of the air cleaner--two bolts 1 set attached to the filter and 2 on the fuel line--CAREFULLY loosen these bolts and a clamp on the filter--replace. 6 cyl. follow fuel system procedure, fuel filter located under car by rear passenger tire--its easier if you can raise the car and remove the rear wheel--follow safety procedures to do this. two bolts on filter and 2 on the fuel line and a clamp for the filter screwed into the bottom of the car. care must be exercised when removing the nuts on the fuel line use the proper wrench and have a pan to collect the gasoline that will come out. exercise care with the open fuel system to prevent accidents--just dont want to see anyone hurt
