Problem most likely with worn ignition cylinder or a worn key. sometimes u can get lucky by using a couple diffrent products. first get a can of brak kleen it is a compressed spray product that will dry with no residue spray it inside igntion cylinder to try and clean dislodge any debris if that doesnt work try some lubrication next. any penetrating oil (wd-40, pb blast ect.) spray inside lock cylinder. continue working with key(if it is not excessivly worn) if u do get it to turn. DO NOT TRUST IT. have ignition cylinder replaced as it is much easier to do so when it is turning

Sounds like a worn key or pins in the ignition switch.

Right key? just kidding I am sure you checked. sounds like the tumblers are stiff or jammed, try squirting plenty of WD40 in there and jiggle the key in and out, ensure the steering wheel is not putting extra tension on the lock by pulling against any tension with it. Good luck

My car locked steering wheel and can't turn the key, can you please help me

Hi Dev:
First, let's confirm that you are using the correct key.
Next, the key won't turn unless the transmission is in Neutral, or Park.
If the wheels were under tension, maybe turned against a curb, when the vehicle was stopped, there may be pressure against the steering lock mechanism, and that may be stopping the ignition from turning.
Try turning the steering wheel to releive the presssure and see if you can jiggle the shift lever. That should release the ignition.
Hope this helps.

KEY WON'T TURN ON THE IGNITION

Hi Aldene, Your vehicle seems too young to have a problem with a worn key so I suggest that the problem was related to the position of the steering wheel and the tongue of the locking mechanism. Sometimes when the lock engages it is under the load of the weight of the front wheels, if they are not in the straight ahead position. A small movement of the steering wheel is usually enough to release the steering lock. Regards John

Steering wheel won't lock, key won't come out

If the ignition normally only locks with the vehicle in park position, then check the switch on the gear lever mechanism is working.
If not, then you'll have to jiggle and wiggle that key out or replace the ignition lock.

I put my key into the keyhole near the steering wheel so I could start the car, but for some reason my key won't turn, like it's stuck, what can I do to fix that?

Try moving your steering wheel to the left then jiggle the key until it releases, if no luck try the same thing moving the steering wheel to the right, or combination of both ways, If this works then there is nothing to worry about, it can happen almost to any vehicle, you are just in between the wheel locking mechanism and the ignition start or the removal of the key, a common problem in the design of the wheel lock, to prevent it from happening again, just have your steering wheel were you want it before starting or turning off you car. Cannot turn key in ignition to start car

Hi nicoleelgert, i suspect the steering lock is giving you the problem, all you need to do is turn the steering wheel left and right ( jiggle ) while turning the key in the ignition, it won't move much because it's locked but it will be enough to release the steering lock and allow you to turn key.. make sure you have the shifter in Park position too. Good luck . OK

When I put the key in and hold the steering wheel it won't unlock and my key won't turn

the steering wheel has a locking devise released by the key when starting, at times the wheel is turned in a way that keeps pressure on the lock that makes turning the key harder, this is the same in most cars, so a little jiggle of the wheel will make turning the key much easier, please take a moment to rate my reply Good Luck

Ignition problem

You've tried pulling steering wheel hard from one side to the other while turning key? Always try to avoid shutting vehicle off with wheels turned, keep straight when turning off. Are you parking on a sloped drive by chance? If yes, press hard on brake pedal when trying to turn key, if no luck, try rocking car forward ,back, while trying to turn key.

Jiggle the steering wheel back and forth while trying to get the key back in. Keep jiggling the wheel while turning the key until it all works out.

Ignition locks up!

Try spraying a little lubricant in there, if you haven't tried already, like silicone spray. Make sure you push hard into park & press brake pedal harder as well, and wiggle steering wheel hard.
