Light thumping sound when turning, could this be brakes

Could be universal joints, struts, or wheel bearings too! Get underneath your car, put your front end on Jack-Stands for safety, and grab hold of the tie-rods and check for movement up and down. If they seem tight, do the same with your front struts... it's movement your looking for. Spin the front wheels with the wheel covers off and listen for noise. They should spin freely. Brakes usually make a scraping sound... metal to metal. Any thumping when you brake hard... like a panic stop is normal. The ABS brakes are supposed to do this.

There is a noise coming from the front left wheel when the vehicle is in motion. It seems to speed up & slow down with the speed the vehicle is traveling. I can't tell what it is. If it's not brakes or a...

Another problem is the CV universal joint going to the wheel. this is inside a rubber boot to protect the constant velocity universal joint and maybe the boot has been damaged and allowed water/dirt inside. Find a large open parking lot and make a tight figure eight with the steering wheel all the way over and listen to see if the noise is louder. locking the steering wheel hard over turning left and then hard over turning right and if the noise is louder then your CV joint is bad. A squealing scraping noise could be worn out brake pads allowing the small L shaped metal tab to rub on the brake rotor causing the noise too. Look at the pad, the should be very thick riding against the brake rotor. You should be able to see the L bracket and if it is against the brake rotor, new brake pads are needed. A grinding kind of noise that changes its sound when you make small turns like avoiding pot holes could be coming from a bad wheel bearing. Jack that wheel off the ground and then grab the top and bottom of the tire and see if it wiggles on the axel. There should be no play at all if the wheel bearing is good. Regards, Dennis

Grinding or scraping noise comin from rearend 1998 chevy Z71

Clutches in a diff only work when you are going around corners or when on wheel is slipping. so in normal straight ahead driving they are not working. I would be checking for a failed axle bearing of brake worn and failing

the left. when you turn left it pushes pressure on the bearing quieting it down turn right and it pulls the bearing you can verify this by jacking up the vehicle and tilting the wheel top to bottom you should be able to feel the play in the bearing if its making noise

Noise from offside rear wheel when turning, it sounds like a bearing but we don't think it is that, its not really a 'knocking' more of a scraping, grinding sound. Its not continious, seems to occur mainly...

Have the front brakes checked alot of times the brake pads wear down to the point that the wear warning indicator starts to rub on the rotor or disc and makes a scraping sound when turning, your front brake pads are due to be replaced, I am 80% sure.

1998 chevy cavalier 2.2l wheel noise

usually if noise is made when turning right it would be the right wheel bearing easiest way to check would be to lift the car off the ground on that side until tire clears the ground and spin the wheel to see if it makes noise also try grabbing the wheel on the top and bottom at the same time and see if you can move the wheel back and forth checking for slack.

Right rear is making a sound of medal scraping medal. I believe it maybe the wheel bearings.

If it's a scraping sound, when does it happen? If it's when you hit the brakes, then it's likely your rear brake pads/shoes are down to the metal and are scraping. This can happen when you're not hitting the brakes, however. Bad wheel bearings are usually a moaning/roaring sound that increases as road speed increases. Ditto that for differential bearings - if they go out, you usually get a roaring noise that increases the faster you go.
