Question about 1993 Nissan Sentra 4 Door

2 Answers

I have a 1993 nissan sentra xe car. the problem is that i cannot get the tail lights to come on when i turn on the head lights. the head lights work, the back up lights work, the brake light works, and the blinkers work. but the darn tail light does not work. i am referring to the lights that when you turn on the head lights the tail lights in the rear are suppose to come on but they do not. i have tried buying new bulbs, checking fuses and nothing seems to work. the brake, backup, and tail lights all work on the same bulb, the bulb lights up on all but the stay on lights when you turn on the head lights....any help appreciated..thanks

The most common causes of the issue you describe include:

  • A connector in that circuit which has become disconnected.
  • A buildup of road film or corrosion inside of one of the connectors in the wiring harnesses for that circuit.
  • A cut or broken wire in the circuit which causes the circuit to be "open."
  • Corrosion in the light switch or a relay [If there is a relay in the circuit].
  • Corrosion at a ground connection at the light assemblies, BUT that would usually only disable one of the lights, not all.
  • A defective [corroded or worn out] main light switch

  • I would go to the local junkyard and pull parts off another 1991-1994 Nissan Sentra, I see them in there all of the time. I also owned a 1991 Nissan Sentra XE for five years and they are well built vehicles

Fuse #6 beside the steering coloum is a 10 amp fuse, Its for the taillights and side markers. It may have a hairline crack in it. Look closely.

well you wil need to verify that that fuse has 12 volts and didnt loose its source. Look under the hood for any other fuse boxes. If the fuse has 12 volts the problem may be in the switch itself or the 12v wire to the lights broke somewhere. You will need a test light ot meter at this point otherwise were just guessing.

Usually a sign of a bad ground in the socket or the wiring.
Use a test light to check the circuits at the socket.

More than likely it is the combination switch on the steering column. This is a common issue on the older vehicles.
