Question about 2001 Volvo S40
The onboard ingition and fuel control systems will adapt just fine to running on 87 octane. After more than 33 years with a Volvo dealer I have never ever had any problems of cars running 87 Octane except the 1992 960. That changed as the engine control modules became more sofisticated

It should say in the owners manual or inside the fuel door what the minimum octane rating is. On this vehicle, I believe the minimum octane is 91
