take off distributor cap to see which way the distributor turns clock wise, or counter clock wise, look for a small square on cap, two from that square is where number one plug wire goes
if your engine run before you changed anything, and you are talking about a 3.0 engine, you have to be careful changing wires on this engine, you need toonly change one wire at a time, the distributor cap on this engine is just stupid. if you look under the cap you'll see that a wire on the one side of the cap actually has a contact that leads to the other side of the cap. cly 5 cyl 6 cyl 3 cyl 4 cyl 1 cyl 2 front of engine
if your looking at distributor cap from front of engine, two screws hold down cap. look at the screw closest to the front, from that screw second hole to the left is #1. firing order is 123456 #2 wire will be at that front screw on cap, keep installing wires counter clockwise.
1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2 in clockwise rotation. Number one is the front cyl on the drivers side -all odd #'s from front to back 1 3 5 7. on the passenger side front starts with 2 and then 4 6 8 . Put the # 1 cyl at top dead center and see where on the cap the rotor is pointing. Start your #1 wire there and continue clockwise until you have all 8. Hope this helped!
first verify plug wires you might have one crossed. get a wiring diagram and check each wire from the cap to the plug , cyl 1 to cyl1 ect. it is very easy to cross one. make sure the wires are on the cap correctly, make sure the cap is on correctly. any part store will give you a tune up print out showing cyl location plug wire timing ect. then you want to check everything is plugged in from vacuum lines to tps to mass air to map sensors . the car ran fine before this so its simple just retrace and look closely i bet there is 2 plug wires crossed or something is unplugged. just do one wire at a time from the cap to cyl. make sure your going the right way on cap. just get the tune up print out and retrace each wire.
