Question about Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera
I suspect from what you are describing is a problem in your transmission. Usually is worse after the transmission gets warmed up.
Your vehicle has a feature in the transmission that locks up the torque converter when cruising to save fuel. There is a solenoid mounted behind the left side cover on your transmission that sticks and doesn't allow the lockup to release and will stall the motor. If you are familiar with driving a manual transmission it would be like not depressing the clutch coming to a stop.
The part should be available at your local auto supplier, dealer or transmission shop.
If you are a do-it-yourself person the side cover will need to be removed. There are about a dozen bolts to come off and you may need to pry the engine and trans a little for clearance.
A cup or so of fluid will run out on removal. There are two wires, usually black and red and will need to be cut as there isn't a connector plug. The replacement part wiring should be coded similarly. The ones I get also come with easy twist connectors to hook the wires together again.
I hope this solves your problem.
