Changing flywheel for transmission, flywheel has a weight on it, which way does the weight go - towards the engine or not

If you are not sure about changing a clutch pay a good mechanic to do it for you. This isn't really a job you can do easily on your drive or on the street outside your home. Even when you know what your doing it's at least a full day, possibly 2, to do the job. Remember engines and transmissions are VERY heavy and VERY expensive to replace if they get dropped or damaged.
To change the clutch with the engine and transmission still in the car is a huge amount of work. You have to support the weight of the engine and transmission separately so you can lower it far enough to separate the transmission from the engine. You will then need to unbolt the old clutch parts on the flywheel.
Then you fit the new clutch kit making sure the friction plate is centred correctly, then refit the transmission to the engine. And finally remount the whole thing back onto the engine mounts.

No year make or model. But if your crank sensor is mounted between the engine and transmission (Dodges). You could have damaged it when putting the transmission back on. I don't normally remove them, But I do make sure the transmission is lined up before shoving in on the engine.

Not an easy job for the inexperienced. You need to clamp the springs on the front struts so they won't damage the CV joints on the drive axles when you take the engine weight off them. You need to remove the AC compressor without letting the freon out. Same goes for the power steering pump. Disconnect both radiator hoses. It's a good idea to remove the hood to give clearance for the engine hoist. Disconnecting the battery for a long time will erase the saved stations on the radio, so be prepared to reset them after the job is done. Disconnecting throttle cables and cruise control cables are next. Then electrical wiring harnesses need to be disconnected. Now you remove the bolts from the engine mounts and the transmission bell housing. Out comes the starter and the flywheel cover. Take out all the bolts that attach the transmission torque converter to the flywheel. Hook up the engine hoist and gently lift the engine slightly to separate it from the transmission. Continue lifting the engine away from the transmission while keeping the torque converter from separating from the transmission. Once the engine is clear of the car you can unbolt the flywheel and replace it. Simple ... huh

check to make sure you have the correct flywheel, these are matched to the engine and is done with or without weights depending on wether or not the engine is internally or externally balanced. also check your motor and transmission mounts.

Most I have seen have "flywheel side" printed on the inner surface. If it doesn't then the longer portion of the center "spline" goes back towards the transmission

The answer is yes you can as long as the engine is the same. What you will have to do is to change out the flywheel from your old motor to the new one, as the old flywheel has the pilot bearing in it. If you are changing out engines, I would recommend that you replace the rear main oil seal, water pump and timing belt so that you will be basically issue free when it is installed. I would also recommend that you replace the clutch, throw out bearing, pressure plate and pilot bearing as well so that you do not have any transmission issues. Changing the gear oil/transmission fluid, and cv axle seals would be a good thing to do as well. I hope that you have found this information useful as that is my goal.

Yes you can, you have to remove the strut assembly on the side the transmission is on. get and engine hoist to assist in taking the transmission out when it is fully unbolted. Also to make it a bit easier try to take the weight of the engine with the hoist and remove the engine mounts so you can lower the engine to get the transmission out easier.
NOTE: Don't forget to unbolt the torque converter from the flywheel before you pull the transmission out, so it all comes out as one whole assembly. Good luck
