Question about Cars & Trucks

2 Answers

Have a Maytag gas dryer, model#:LDG7314AAE serial#:16068237QF, and the flame will not stay lit. It warms up ignites and then after 15 to 30 seconds it shuts off. It repeats the cycle but the flame stays lit for shorter amounts of time. I replaced the 2 coil located in the front of the dryer to no avail. I then removed the high limit thermostat and then the flame would stay lit. Assuming that was the problem I purchased a new one installed it but the problem was still there. The dryer is also not clogged i have the back exhaust off and all air flow is fine so I know that isn't the problem. Just looking for some help finding a solution. THANKS!!!!!!!!!

Inside the pilot is this little rod that keeps the pilot lit. This little probe can get corroded or dirty and will not maintain the temp or cause pilot not to stay lit. You can clean or change the pilot and it would also be a good idea to test power going to pilot to make sure it consistent.

Did you change the igniter, or glow coil as it is sometimes called? If it is orange in colour instead of white it needs to be replaced as it is not strong enough to ignite and stay lit. Hope this helps.

Will not stay lite

probable wants a new thermocouple ( F F D flame failure device.)
or its not set directly in flame , or your flame jet is parsley blocked and the thermocouple is not hot enough to hold the gas valve open.
THERMOCOUPLES when hot generate a minute voltage that creates a magnet affect in the gas valve and holds it open if the thermocouple is burnt out or not set correctly the flame will not stay on . the black mark on your fire is a sign the gas is not burning correctly at that point causing ,may be due to oxygen
starvation , my suggestion is when the fire is off and cold give the part around the thermocouple a good vacuum to remove any build up of fluff /dust. if this does not work you need to get the thermocuple replaced and the fire serviced. good luck

Without knowing the make/model/year/engine of your car, about all we can do is guess. Things that can cause this include:
temperature sensor
ignition wiring
vacuum leaks

My heater just stopped working and don't have manual so where do i start trying to figure out what's wrong

If you are talking about a gas heater and the pilot light will not stay lit, you probably need to replace the thermocouple. That is the piece that is sticking into the pilot light flame. If it fails then the heater will not open the main valve. You will need to know your make, model, and serial number to get the correct part. I suggest you visit the attached website to learn about replacing the part using their video selection. To find the cheapest price for the part I suggest a web search once you find the part number. We turned up the heat at our 5 year old cottage. Our furnace comes on and the blower starts up, the igniter glows and the gas starts the flame but it runs only for a few minutes. Then the gas stops and the...

There is a thermocouple that holds the gas valve open as long as there is a flame. This part will wear out with time. Look for a copper colored small tube that runs from the gas valve into the fire box and ends up at the burner close to the flame.

The pilot light is not on how do I switch it back on?

Turn the gas valve off all the way, make sure you don't smell gas and wait an hour or so. The gas valve should have an on setting and a pilot light setting. Turn the gas valve to pilot light and you should be able to push the vlv button down. At this time hold a flame to the pilot light outlet. It should light and when it does keep holding the vlv down for about 15-30 seconds. IF you let off of the vlv and the pilot light goes out, you may have a faulty sensor. IF it stays lit when you let off the vlv. back your face away from the unit and turn the valve to the on position. Operate the cooker as usual making sure that the burner does indeed light when called for. If the pilot light will not stay lit, make sure the sensor is enveloped in the flame. If the flame is too small you may have to change or clean the pilot flame outlet. To replace the sensor, remove it from the mount by the pilot outlet(once it has cooled) then follow it back to the control valve and remove it useing a line wrench. YOu should be able to get one at the nearest hardware store.

Try to do the crank relearn:
Ensure that your battery is fully charged before attempting the relearn procedure. Do not leave any battery charger or jumper cables attached to the battery. Close the hood completely. Some applications require that the doors remain closed during the procedure.

My electrolux oven won't stay lit

Right above your pilot light, there is a little temperature probe. It either needs to be cleaned, replaced, or adjusted closer to the top of the pilot flame. Hope this helps. Good luck!
