FIRST LOCATE THE TROTTLE BODY FUEL SUPPLY CONNECTION OPEN IT UP AND LOOK FOR THE FUEL INJECTOR WIRING PLUG CHECK THIS FOR ANY BREAKS IN WIRES OR BAD CONNECTIONS IF ALL ARE GOOD THEN CHECK YOUR FUEL PUMP IS NOT FAULTY IF SO REMOVE IT AND BRING BIT TO A MOTOR STORE FOR REPLACEMENT REFIT IT AND YOUR CAR SHOULD START FINE .

Either the pump is not pumping or the fuel filter is clogged. You should be able to hear the pump run for a few seconds when you turn key to ON position. If you don't hear it, check that the relay is good with an ohmmeter or test power to pump with a voltmeter.

My gmc jimmy truck starts with starting fluid then stopS

sounds like no gas getting to the carb. plugged fuel filter, fuel line, bad fuel pump. the carb should squirt a little gas when the throttle is pumped. leave ignition off while looking down the carb and pump the throttle linkage to visually check that gas is squirting down the carb with each stroke of the linkage. maybe you are just out of gas!!

New starter new alternator new fuel filter car wont start add very little gas to carburator step on gas let off of gas turn key it starts and stays running

sounds like you have low fuel pressure.if your adding gas to carb & the car starts & runs ok
you need to verify what the pressure is(KOEO) key on engine off.but you need a pressure guage to do this.some parts houses have a loaner tool policy

1991 Ford Econoline Is acting like its barely getting gas, it will start up and sputter a little and backfire a little what can be the issue its set for a long period of time like 4yrs then it has started...

if it sat that long it could be a lot of things, I would replace the fuel filter first of all, get a can of carb cleaner and as the motor runs at mid to high rpm's spray the cleaner right in the carb barrel, if you've ben driving it with that old gas in it,, either dump it out and clean it, or add a can of gas dry , not knowing which motor you have I don't know if its a carb or fuel injected if its the latter, add some fuel injector cleaner to the gas, you may have to clean the throttle body

Code PO401 is coming up on the computer and the car wont start. it also is reading 4 or 5 little sensors. It seems like its not getting any gas, but if you put carb cleaner in the port it will start up and...

It sounds like a weak fuel pump. Very common when you add fuel manualy that it gets the pump running because once the car starts you now have charging voltage of about 13.5v or more to the pump instead of 12v. Also make sure battery terminals are clean or a voltage drop could cause the pump not to prime. . The 401 code is a low flow egr code. It shouldnt have anything to do with the no start

Get the fuel pressure tested to confirm if cleaning the battery doesnt help.

88 Toyota Corolla backfires through carburetor.

If that is carbureted, and has a mechanical fuel pump, try running a length of fuel line from inlet side of pump to a gas can that has fresh, clean fuel, and if it runs good that way, you know problem is most likely in the tank. Removing the tank & cleaning it out is best solution from there. I'd even be tempted to add a small bottle or 2 of Lucas Fuel Sytem Cleaner to first fill in clean tank, just to help clean lines as well as carb.

Car not getting fuel

If it is a 1980 Caddy it either has a carburetor or throttle-body fuel injection( V864, if it's fuel injected you might need a new fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator ) and you can remove the aircleaner lid and pour a little gas down the carb (hold the choke plate open with a screw driver placed between choke plate and carb air horn) or throttle-body. It might take a few tries before the fuel pump fills the float bowl up on the carb for it to keep running. If the cars has really old stale gas in the tank you might need to drain it and refill with fresh gas. Change the fuel filter and add a can of fuel injector-carb cleaner to the gas tank.

Is fuel getting into the carb?  If it is, is the float chamber full?  Is the float stuck?
