Dealer is telling me that to get the transmission flushed and gasket changed is $350! What is that about? I am having zero problems with it, but has 75,000 miles on it and has never been flushed

A transmission fluid service does not cost $300 dollars so it sounds like they are going to hook it up to a machine and flush out all the fluid in the transmission. Most automatic transmissions should have a trans service done every 12,000 miles(except BMW they are sealed). I personally think these so call transmission flushes are not needed all though your vehicle is way overdue for a trans service. How does the trans fluid look? They might be recommending this service because you have that many miles and never had the trans serviced. If you have had regular trans services done then you do not need a flush. Ask them how much a regular transmission service is and if they do not offer it to you then take it to a local mechanic and have it done.

There are two schools of thought about this issue. The auto makers and the dealers always suggest this as part of the service when the vehicle hits 75 or 80 thousand miles. Other folks say don't touch it unless it is causing trouble. If you would rather not spend the money at this time, you probably will be just fine.

How many quarts of Transmission fluid do I need for a Transmission flush on a 2008 buick enclave?

In spite of what many oil change shops tell you, one of the worst things you can do is "FLUSH" your transmission. My and mayny transmission mechanics recommendation is, if the fluid is a cherry red color then leave it alone. If it has darkened from new fluid color, then pull the pan, clean it well including the magnetic drain plug and put in a new filter and pan gasket. Generally 6 quarts is a maximum on a passenger car.

Hi, I have just bought an 07 Suzuki Ignis 1.5 automatic with only 14,000 mls. Can you advise me how to change the transmission fluid, if needed. Thanks, Frank.

take it to a transmission shop and have them do it for you . but with only 14,000 on it I would not think the transmission fluid needs changed yet

2007 dodge caliber transmission is overheating: what is the possible cause?

Had the same overheating issue with mine @ 213,000 miles. I had had the fluid changed out by the dealer and the system flushed at 105,000. . . This time I did it myself, $ 142.00 for 2 gallons of cvt tran fluid from dealer, gasket & new filter from Summit racing (23.00). . . ****** take 7.50 qts. once drained ! Cur runs great now !

Chevy dealership did a trany flush at 100,000 miles didnt change filter. ****** slips now. should they have changed the filter?

  • A transmission flush is a separate service from a transmission filter/gasket replacement. They should have informed you of this without a doubt but as to should they have done both... the two usually are a separate service. I usually recommend the pan gasket/filter and you loose about a third of the transmission fluid so it is a nice partial drain and fill as well and do a power transmission fluid power flush in between times. I have seen vehicles where the transmission filter was so bad that after a flush the car would not move, had to do the filter as well. So I would suggest getting that replaced.

2002 isuzu axiom, transmission is dragging when changing gears

if you have 100k plus miles, have the transmission filter change and flush by the dealer with proper tools and equipment, don't go to regular home town garage, pay little extra to have the work done right especially when it come to transmission work. its also good idea to have the tranny flush every 75k if you want any automatic transmission to last. If the tranny need replacing then take it to transmission shop and not the dealer. Try the filter and flush first..good luck!!

Yes i took my hyundai xg 350 L to a hyundai dealer to get my timing belt changed and a transmission flush amd new spark plugs and wires and spent over twelve hundred dollars and my car is running worse...

Having once owned a trans repair business,I wouldn't
flush a trans,as you may get fine sediment in the valve
body and solenoids

I suspect they installed your timing belt incorrectly
or some othe issue

You should have a new water pump also
No one does a timing belt and not the water pump

If someone put anitfreeze where the transmission fluid goes will i need 2 replace the whole engine?

No. your problem is in the transmission not your engine, flush transmission fluid and put new fluid is good idea to change the filter too. good luck.

My 2000 Toyota 4runner V6 125k miles automatic transmission started slipping on cold starts especially in the morning. After starting up, putting in drive and pressing the gas pedal first gear doesn't...

Low transmission fluid is usually the only reason power engages late or slippage occurs. But changing the transmission fluid again would not hurt. The stuff really shouldn't deteriorate like engine oil. Be sure to not run the vehicle many miles until the problem is completely resolved < 100 miles. One easy check would be to make sure the transmission lines are well connected and maintain pressure as well as fluid level. The good thing is that Toyota has a reputation of very good transmissions.
