Car just refuses to start

Clicking usually indicates low charge on battery, but it can also be the contacts from the battery to the engine and frame. Check the cables to see if they are not making good contact or corroded--if you are a DIY enthusiast change the battery cables or get a metal-wire brush & wrenches & clean everywhere they connect.

Another preliminary task is to do a wiggle test--wiggle all the wiring you can see under the hood & try restarting to see if there's an intermittant wiring or harness connection problem with anything under the hood. Honda Pilots have problems like this with the main wiring harness.

Where would I start my search for the bad ground connection on my 95 passport. Thanks

start with dirty /loose connection on the neg - side of the battery terminal and batter post has to be shiny clean and tight
check that the lead is not corroded in the terminal or loose at the engine end
clean earth point on the engine
if you have a problem with dash clusters and others check that the earth wire from the body is attached to the engine or in the harness connection

Cayenne s 2003 dash warning light brake proportioning . Solution?

Not sure if you've solved your problem but I do have the answer. Also you failed to state that your vehicle will not go into drive because of this warning, which is generally the situation. When the drain ports under the hood clog, moisture runs down under the rug on the interior causing the wiring harness connectors on both sides of your vehicle to corrode. You need to remove the kick plates that cover the rug. Pry the rug away to expose a plastic shroud that covers the harness, just in front of each front seat on the floor. At this time you'll probably notice how wet the rug and it's foam backing is. Dry this out with towels and a hair dryer. Remove the harness cover. You'll see a clear plastic cover and a harness which looks like it's covered in electrical tape. Unwind the tape. This will expose the harness and connectors. If I can remember correctly, there is three connectors on each side, driver's and passenger's. See how corroded they are. Some maybe broken off. Cut back and clean these wires. Before connecting them, use a fine sand paper to clean the wires. Make sure these connectors are facing up and now cover them better than Porsche did. I used electrical tape and plastic wrap, followed by black plastic pull ties. The drain hoses, terminate under the vehicle, just in front of both doors. You'll also need to remove the plastic covers under the hood on both sides of the engine compartment beside the wipers. This will expose the firewall where the drains are generally full of debris like small sticks and rotting leaves. You'll save at least $2000 doing this yourself. Not knowing how to do this, it took me approx. 3 hrs. to do the job correctly. Good luck.

Gauges and instrument panel not working after loose battery cable was found and repaired.

Most Toyotas have more than one wire coming off of the positive battery cable connector. These wires go to other power centers as the larger cable goes to the starter and its controls. Make sure those other wires have a good connection. Take them apart and really clean them. Don't rely on just checking to see if the main cable has power. Then test these wires as well as possible where they go into the engine harness and near the firewall. In some cases, one or more of these wires are actually fuse links. Make sure that if they are, they are not blown. If so, replace them. Fuse links are fusible wires that act just like a regular fuse. Also check all of the fuses in the fuse box(es). There may be more than one box. One under the hood and maybe another under the dash.

2005 ford freestyle, for about 5 months now, while driving or in park, there is a clicking sound and then all of the dash instruments and lights will cut out. sometimes they will flicker or just remain...

Open the hood and look to your left to the rear at the top of the firewall. You will see a large wire harness going into a computer module.remove the wire harness from the computer and look for corrosion.Clean any corrosion and reinstall harness and waterproof the connection as Ford did not waterproof this connector very well and it can cause all sorts of trouble.

Car cuts off randomly i have to get out and tap the computer under the hood to get it to start again

Could be faulty wiring, I would pop the hood and make sure none of the wires are torn or partially connected, it could cause a short. Also check all the connections and make sure that they aren't dirty. Also check the computer itself to make sure its clean of debris.

Alarm Problem

The green wire with the crimp needs to go away. This is the wire that allows the alarm computer to beep the horn when the system is activated.

The wires that go past the hood release is probably a power and a ground bolt. Pull up the rocker panel trim, and then pull off the kick panel. Some of those alarms used another connector over behind the kickpanel, and also, some had a "hood switch". All of the wiring needs to go away. You can cut the wires to the hood switch, if it has one.

Please get back to me if you need more assistance.
A FixYa rating would be greatly appreciated.

Eec fuse keeps blowing on mercury mystique

When you go to wide open throttle, the only thing that happens is your a/c cut out is activated by the throttle position sensor. I owuld check there, but it is very rare that the TPS would cause a fuse to blow.
You may have an engine wire harness that has the wiing insulation decomposing causing wires to short against each other. Peel open the plastic convolute and look for cracks in the insulation. Here is info on a Ford program to repair if less than 100,000 miles on your car.

October, 1999
To:
All Ford and Lincoln-Mercury Dealers
Subject:
Owner Notification Program 99M03 - Certain 1995-1997 Contour and Mystique vehicles - Under Hood Wire Harness - Additional Coverage.
PROGRAM TERMS:
This program provides extended coverage on certain under hood wire harnesses through 10 years or 100,000 miles which ever occurs first, from the original warranty start date. AFFECTED VEHICLES
Certain 1995 - 1997 Contour and Mystique vehicles built from Job #1 1995 through Model Year End 1997. REASON FOR RECALL
Under ambient factors of high temperature and high humidity, certain 1995 - 1997 Contour and Mystique vehicles may be susceptible to the wiring insulation becoming brittle and cracking on certain engine compartment wiring harnesses. These harnesses deliver electrical power to the engine and its cooling and control systems, the climate control, and other power distribution systems. If wire harness insulation cracking is found during the additional warranty period, the under hood wire harnesses are to be replaced at no charge to the customer. SERVICE ACTION
Additional Warranty Coverage
Effective immediately, Ford is providing additional coverage for the replacement of the under hood wire harnesses on these vehicles for a period of 10 years or 100,000 miles, which ever occurs first, from the original warranty start date. This coverage exceeds the provisions of the original component warranty coverage on the affected vehicles and is automatically transferred to subsequent owners at no charge. This additional coverage does not include normal service diagnostic or repair charges unrelated to wire harness brittleness and cracking. After this additional coverage has expired, wire harness replacements will be at the expense of the vehicle owner.
