A code PO301 indicates a cylinder misfire. You may want to start with a tune-up, including new plugs and wires, especially if they are original from the factory. If there is a cap and rotor, replace them as well. To double-check the problem though, I would recommend bringing your vehicle into a local technician so he can put it on an engine diagnostics computer.

Well number one has a misfire, so if the fuel injector is OK and all ignition concerns are good, the cylinder may have low compression, check all the engine cylinder pressures, no cylinder should read lower than 5% of the highest PSI reading of the other cylinders.

PO300 code

Code 300 means you have a random miss that is not serious enough to pick one cylinder. The computer measures RPM on each cylinder as the plug fires. So it is not that a cylinder is not firing but rather that it is not producing enough power.
Other causes are vac leaks and lack of fuel.

If your vehicle has one, and I think it does, check your EGR system. If the egr valve is full of carbon, it can be partially open, creating a vacuum leak. If the egr valve solenoid is bad, it could be opening the valve at the wrong time, also creating a vacuum leak. Unplug the egr vacuum hose, plug the open end of the hose and start it and see what it does. A picture of the egr is below.

01 escape, v6 4wd, low rouph idle,difficult to start, wether cold or at operating temp. check engine light not indicating problem and is operating properly.

I would check to see if your ford has a fuel filter on it,if so and it is at the mileage to replace it go ahead and do so.Also I would check to see if it was time for a tune up.The fuel filter is pretty cheap and if you can turn a wrench you could do this job at home and save yourself some cash.Remember that after the filter is replaced cut the switch on 3 or 4 times without starting the engine to prime the filter.Hope this will help you out.

Follow info from P0301.

P0316 - Misfire Occurred In The First 1,000 Engine Revolutions.

- Running out of fuel
- Fuel Quality
- Base engine
- Damaged Powertrain Control Module

Usually the P0316 is combine with a P03XX codes. The P03XX code indicates in which cylinder the misfire occurred.

check the gasket for the bottom of the intake plenum
to check remove pcv valve from the valve cover plug the vent hose from the other valve cover and the hole the pcv valve was removed from with your fingers while the engine is idleing. if it builds up a vacuum, noticable by a air rush sound when you remove finger from vent/pcv grommet hole then the gasket for the plate on the bottom of the intake plenum has blown out. it is a very common problem and results in fould plugs and oil consumption problems.

The po301 is a misfire code. The backfire can be caused by a excessive amount of fuel, bad valve timing etc.
My guess is you have damage to an exhaust valve that may have occurred when you had the timing belt problem.A compression test will indicate if you have a leaking exhaust valve.The reason for the backfire is the exhaust valve is still partially open when the spark plug fires.

po301 thru po306 all misfire codes cylinder 1-6 remove plugs and replace them..... set the plug gap first
i suggest u replace the wires also if they never been replaced all these misfire codes can set the others and one is for the oxygen sensor ( 02s or HO2S) CIRCUT MALFUNCTION do u know how to check wireing systems
do the tune up plugs (set gap) .052-.056 change the fuel filter also. clear the codes hows it run
this info is for 98 E-250 4.2Litre
what engine do u have 4.2L or 4.6L i know it is a v-6 by the codes

Fuel problems

a rouph idle or running rouph could be a couple of things

1. you may need to clean you carberator or fuel injectors.
2. you may need to change your spark plugs
3. if you can drive and be fine and when you try to get into the gas and it tryies to bog and idle rouph than you may have an hair line fracture in the distributor cap..
but it sounds like a fuel problem... also if you have run it low on gas latley you may sucked up all the dirt at thebottom of your fuel tank clogging you fuel filter... so check that as well. the fuel filter is usually the cheapest to change... if this doesn't help the only thing i can think of othe than that is check your catalitic converter it my be trying to clog and if it does your truck will not run right or run at can check this by taking the exust loose from the manifold and running your engine... if this doesn't help e-mail me and i will help you through this problem....
