Question about 2003 Dodge Durango

2 Answers

I have an 03 durango, 4.7 slt. i have an engine light problem. i start the truck, within about 15 or 20 seconds the rpm's drop out to under 500, if you give it any fuel, it will die. if you wait about 10 seconds, it automatically idles back up, runs great all day, until you have to initially start it again. i have replaced : o2 sensors, cat converter, fuel canister, spark plugs, camshaft position sensor, crankshaft position sensor, throttle posotion sensor, gas cap, fuel soleniod, purge valve. i have a superchip programmer/code reader, the fault description is vacum evap purge system, have been to the dodge dealership here at least 7 times, cannot figure out the problem. i work for the US MILITARY in korea, don't know what to do next, please advise....thank you

I have the same problem, and the same DTC evap problem. I am stationed in Germany and the dealership can't resolve the problem. I have also replaced the TPS and IAC (Idle Air Control Valve) and that did not resolve the problem.

At idle 2005 4 litre mustang shows 50 psi at 75 degrees, when at normal temp pressure drops to 15,20 at idle. At 2,000 rpm shows 40 psi. This sounds low to me, is this normal?

That sounds normal. There would be specifications for it that you should check, but that sounds pretty normal. The specs probably show a pressure for idle at normal operating temperature, and another figure at a specified engine rpm. Or it may just have one spec at a certain rpm.

Check engine light on. Will not rev up over 2500 rpm. Fluctuates between 2000 and 2500 rpm and runs rough. Upon first start, you can rev fine and it runs smooth as long as you hold the rpms over 3000. ...

Hi, there are a lot of things that could cause this behavior, so it would help us to diagnose your problem if you could get a scan of the OBD2 connector and send us the trouble code. If you live in the US you can usually get a free scan at your local parts chain.

I recieved Code 12 from diagnosis

For 83-86 Camry, 87 corolla, 84-87 pickups and 4-runner: Code 12 = knock sensor or circuit (distributor or circuit on Cressida, Supra, and Celica 3S-GE)

87-90 Camry, all other models 88-90: Code 12 = Rpm signal/no NE or G signal to ECU within several seconds after engine is cranked.

All models from 1991 on: Code 12 = Rpm signal No "Ne" signal to the ECM within several seconds after the engine is cranked. No "G" signal to the ECM two times in Succession when engine speed is between 500 rpm and 4000 rpm.

2000 Durango SLT 5.9Ltr. Will start but idles high, around 7000-7500. All dash lights come on and stay on for a while. Voltage gage drops to below charge range and then all of dash dies and Durango starts...

well the fast idle is 1 of 2 things, Either the throttle is stuck? or a super nasty vacume leak, Check all hoses carefully, if that proves good check intake leak. Something is allowing tremendous vacume into engine causing this high idle, The charging system is a whole nother story

first check all vacuum lines especially the one behind the throttle body to make sure none of them are off also have it tested to see if one of the coil packs on the spark plugs is bad and it hasn't had a tune up in awhile now is a good time to do so fuel filter plugs coil pack on the plugs if needed and the drive belt checked
