If this is an older vehicle and engine also check fusible links that lead to the starter, these might have blown. If all check out, besure you have voltage going to the ignition switch. Turn key and be sure voltage is coming out. if not then replace ignition switch.

You said you have power to the coil. Is the power still available in the start position?

I don't know what type of distributor you have in there, but you may have to change the ignition module too. It's on the aluminum part underneath the rotor. It should have 4 metal prongs coming from the black plastic piece. Try that and get back to me.

Testimonial: " I do not think it has an electronic ign control mod.I think the motor is a 283 and older than the has an ignition condenser. isit the same?"

  • Brandon Undeberg Nov 19, 2009

Have you checked to make sure you have power to the coil/condenser? They should have power to them with the key in the on position. Any signs of baked wiring anywhere? Without actually checking it out personally I'm a little lost on exactly where to start. The engine cranks over correct, it just won't start? There has to be a bad wire that leads to the ignition system, if it has it at the key and after they key you should be able to follow it to the correct components. If I were working on it that's what I would do.

I have a 2004 Sprinter. When I first purchased this used van, all was good.By the third day I experienced a no start condition that lights up security code on the dash. Disconecting the battery and...

I would try replacing the vehicle battery. A low or shorted battery can wreak havoc with your computer system. I have seen them cause no-starts when interrior lights, ect look fine. When the system is doing goofy things like you are describing, it is usually caused by a bad/shorted battery or losse/corroded battery cables.

Poeple tend to forget that NOTHING works properly if the battery is not working properly.

I bought a new alternator and charged by battery but my battery is still not charging and nothing inside of my truck works but motor still going what's wrong and how can I fix it

Take a voltmeter to the battery while truck is running. Should read 12.8 to 14,6 volts - that'll prove your alternator is working. My suspicions are your battery is tired and just not holding charge as deeply as it once did.

How do I jump my Chevy Equinox? Where is the battery?

Under the hood

To the right

Black fuse box

pop the fuse box off (no tool needed, but screwdriver helps)

Small metal post to the right.

That is your + possitive (red wire)

Connect the black wire (-) FIRST, to a medal part of the engine that does not move when is running

now connect your possitive.

Make sure the cable does not go in the path of any moving parts on the motor.

connect the other end of the black wire to the negative (-) of the other car BEFORE connecting the possitive(+/red) wire.

Now with the other engine running wait a minute, now try starting your car.

I have a 2004 Chevy Malibu. and recently, the interrior lights and Instrument/tail lights fuses keep blowing out. I replace them, and the next day or sometimes within hours they fuses will be blown again....

You are correct, now to find out what circuit is blowing the fuse.If the car was in a accident check that area first.Chances are its interrior or running lights.lets start with interrior lights, install new fuse turn on interrior lights on for 1/2 hour.if fuse blows remove interrior lamp lenses and look for one of the hot wires to be shorted out on the body.To check the tail lights turn off the interrior lights and turn on the running lights. If fuse blows start with any damaged areas, check the trunk area for damage to the wire harness,if you have a trailer hitch chcek the trailer harness for damage.theres no easy fix here, hope I have been some help. Thanks for using FixYa......Ray

I had a similar situation with my 76 Chevy pickup. If it seems like it don't want to start after you shut it off, but if you wait a little before trying to start again, your starter is getting what is called "heat soaked". Very common problem with the Chevy motors. You could invest in a starter "blanket" but the problem will still be there. Been there, done that!

If your starter is old, meaning YOU never changed it, get another starter. What is done frequently is a remote starter solenoid is installed. Ford uses this and you can do the same. All it is is that the starter solenoid is not right up against the engine. After doing this, it'll start right up every time.

04 Chevy 2500HD 60 mo. orig. battery replaced now click-click??

I have seen stranger things happen, but to my knowledge there is no reset when you replace the battery. GM does put a lot of connections at the terminals and you need to ensure all the wires went back on. Also check the fuse/relay box under the hood to make sure a relay or fuse did not blow. Hope this helps.
