Had to jump start it 3 times ...now it lugs down and dies often..idles very low...replaced fuel filter and was better...now back at square one Thought it was electrical at first..had battery & alternator cked...all good. Ran it totally out of fuel..refilled with premium but still have to keep feet on brake & gas at same time or it dies...especially in the morning when it is cold.....HELP!

IAC - idle air control problem possibly .( You can drive it if you use your left foot to brake but keep the gas pedal down to keep the RPMs up.) Wouldn't be a fuel filter , if fuel filter was clogged partly it would idle ,but would lack power ,low fuel pressure at higher speed's . Do you know what IAC valve is ,an how it works ? Idle Air Control Valve
Or maybe the EGR valve pintle is covered with carbon an sticking open .
Or possibly a dirty or bad MAF sensor - mass air flow sensor - the PCM - engine computer needs info from this sensor so it know's how much fuel to feed the engine .
Hooking up a professional type scan tool to view engine sensor data cut's down on guessing as too what the problem is .
The first thing to check is the Fuel pressure at the Fuel Injector Rail schrader valve. You can get an inexpensive test kit at Harbor Freight. The pressure should be between 28 and 45 psi with the engine running. If it is lower than that you can replace the filter. If that doesn't cure the pressure problem then the pump is next. There are a few possibility on this one. If you run it out of gas or really low on gas you could of sucked junk up from the bottom of the tank and you will need to replace your fuel filter. Another is that your fuel pump us going bad and you would need to check the pressure. Your throttle position sensor may have gone bad. Your idle control valve is another. Your map sensor or mas sensor could be bad
Sounds like a plugged fuel filter. You might have dislogged some "crud" when removing the lines, etc... Can't be 100% sure without doing a test on the fuel system.
Good Luck.
First replace fuel filter and check the air filter. next if it still does it you need to clean the throttle plate using a tooth brush and top engine cleaner, you also need to teat fuel rail pressuer, if this does not fix the problem then the idle set screw needs to be adjusted. Also if you own a timing light check to see if the timing mark is jumping around, these cars tend to lose the distributor drive pin, it's a easy fix but wanted to make you aware of it. Do not adjust the idle valve till you know that thatcatalytic converter is ok.
does your jeep run rough? idle is real low? and when you are driving and push the gas hard it doesnt want to move? if so it is most likely the mass air flow sensor. i had to replace that 2 or 3 times on my 1999 jeep cherokee
