I lost my owner's manual, and I need to know the capacity of the manual transmission! Also, I was told to use MERCON 5, is that right?

Well there are a few different transmissions they put in this truck.
Borg-Warner T-18 4speed takes SAE 80W
Ford S5-42 ZF 5 speed take Mercon 5
Mazda M50D 5 speed with overdrive takes Mercon 5
Mtsubishi FM132, FM146 5 speed with overdrive takes SAE 80W
It looks like they all take between 3 and 4 litres. You may have to call the dealership with the vin number to find out which transmission is in it but you could also just pull the drain plug out just a little bit and if the fluid is red then its mercon 5, if its brown and really thick fluid then its SAE 80W

2004 ford e 150 van. add trans fluid how and what type. i was told to add through the dip stick tube... is this correct? and if so again what type of fluid?

Why are you adding fluid? Sounds as though
you have never had any dealings with an
automatic transmission or checked the level
on one

If you have a leak resolve that issue first

It uses Mercon V Fluid

If you have a filler tube you add & check there

Wher do I locate my transmission fluid and brake fluid?

The Transmission fluid stick is located toward the back of the engine on the drivers side. Check on a level surface when the engine is hot and the vehicle is in "Park". Don't add fluid if within the crosshatch marks. Be sure to use the correct fluid if adding. Check your owner's manual for the correct Mercon fluid. My 2001 taurus with the 3.0 engine uses Mercon V (Mercon 5) only.

The Brake fluid can be visually checked. The master cylinder reservoir is also located on toward the back of the engine on the driver's side

MERCON tepe 5 and MERCON TEPE 3 I, CAN USE THIS OIL FOR TRANSMASSON JEEP GRAND CHORKY 1993 V5 5.2 I,am from saudi arbia no hav MERCON TEPE 4 PLES HLEP ME

should be able to,. what does the owners manual say? Typically the transmission oil types are not as specific as one might think,. but when it comes to mercon vs other,. then you should be fine in the substitution - this would also be related to the climate and how the vehicle would be utilized (ie the sort of climate: high dist, high heat, etc)

DONT USE GEAR OIL IN A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. it will blow your seals out. the gear oil is too heavy and will block passages in the tranny

mercon is mercon , "5" is just an updated version of the original and should't matter who makes it, as long as it states it is mercon

Does the crown vic police intercepter take as much oil as the regular crown vic? (when changing the oil and filter)

I ~think~ the 1999 is the same as the 2000 (mine is a 2000 P71)

The 2000 CVPI (Crown Vic Police Interceptor) owners manual recommends the following:

Engine Oil - Motorcraft SAE 5W-30 Super Premium Motor Oil 5.0 quarts

Transmission Fluid - Motorcraft Mercon V ATF 13.9 quarts (fluids Mercon & Mercon V are NOT INTERCHANGEABLE, DO NOT MIX)

Fuel Tank - 19.0 gallons

Break Fluid - DOT 3

Rear Axle Lubricant - Motorcraft 80W-90 Premium Rear Axle Lubricant 3.75 pints (add 4 oz of Additive Friction Modifier C8AZ-19B546-A or equilavent meeting Ford Spec. EST-M2C118-A for complete refill of Traction-Lok Rear Axles)

Engine Data - 4.6L V8 Engine
Cubic Inches - 281
Required Fuel - 87 Octane
Firing Order - 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
Spark Plug Gap - 1.3-1.4 mm (0.052-0.056 inch)
Ignition System - Coil On Plug
Compression Ratio - 10.0:1

I hope this helps!

Manual Transmission fluid for Ford Escort ZX2

I know this sounds crazy according to Ford:

You can use-
Motorcraft MERCON Multi-Purpose (ATF) Transmission Fluid XT-2-QDX MERCON® Alternative Transaxle Fluid - SAE 75W90 Gear Oil F32Z-19C547-MA API GL-4
You are seeing that right, one instance they call for 75W90 and the other it is ATF. It is ok to run either, 75W90 will give you smoother shifts and less noise.

This transmission is filled through the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) hole.
