Heater not working would like to see a picture of the flapper assembly the shaft appears to be broken how do you get it apart

You have to remove the dash. there is an updated part for the top portion of the heater box. i used to replace these all the time when i worked at a jeep dealer

Heater doesn't work


does the blower turn on? if it does,the blend door is most likely broken..a new blend door motor will do you no good if that's the case. good luck

98 Stratus - Access to vent temperature cable and vent door/flapper ?


Sorry but the system doesn't use cables, it is all motorized and this is a common issue on all older cars. You will need to remove the dash assembly and check the temperature control door (also known as the "blend door). In all cases the door must be checked for freedom of movement, the blend door binding destroys the tiny DC stepper motor that moves the door and in may cases the shaft snaps off. Blower works but not getting full air force


If the blower is not producing a strong flow of air, something has to be restricting it. Or something simple like the blower cage is slipping on the motor shaft.
You disassembled the HVAC box, are you sure the heater core or evaporator is not stopped up? Or the intake vent ?

Heater core went out on 1996 grand cherokee. Tore dash out and am down to pulling out heater assembly. Found the flapper door for I believe, the defroster tract, sitting in the bottom of the box. There is...


Mine was the same but the flapper was stuck in a closed position. (if it is the same one ) the mechanic replaced mine. The bottom of the flapper has some sort of post that rests in a hole on another piece to hold it in place. the post was rusted out .... Problem solved a 5 years ago ... Put the jeep Orvis for sale today.

The sliding switch on the console is stuck in the cold position and the knob is pulled off. Use pliers to jiggle the switch as best you can. Feel under the center console and you probably will find the cable that is hooked up to the flapper. You'll know because when you jiggle the cold/heater switch at the upper console, the cable will move slightly. At the hookup of the cable to the flapper down under the console (passenger side) try to work the flapper loose to the open (or close) position. At the same time work the sliding switch (with pliers). The flapper will come loose and function properly. Try not to knock of the AC button like I did in the process. It flew off some where under the passenger seat. I'll find it sometime before summer. Ha.

2003 ford explorer hvac flapper is stuck on the cold side. Is this a broken flapper or a vacuum problem? Is there a way to tell?


it has an electric motor to move it, sometimes with key turned forward so that dash lights come on you unplug it and it resets itself, but if not motor might be bad i have replace some that snapped the flapper because they failed to stop when at the end of cycle remove motor and inspect flapper shaft.

Air conditioner intermittently works. check low pressure switch ok where does voltage go from there? I have the low pressure switch bypassed compressor worked for a little bit.


You may have a problem with your A/C On/Off switch which is located in the Heater Control Assembly in the dash.
My 1992 Civic had a similar problem that required me to remove the Heater Control Assembly. Next, I had to pull apart the assembly to access the A/C on/off switch. If I remember correctly, there are six solder joints for that switch that connect it to a circuit board. Mine only required resoldering of those six connections and everything works perfectly again. Please note, that my switch appeared to turn on and off with the green indicator changing states when pushed, however, some of the six solder joints were not making a good connection. So, although the light said things were "on" they were not.
Pulling out the Heater Control Assembly is not an easy task, so if you're not particularly handy that way, get yourself some help or instructions on how to do that. Once removed, it's tricky pulling the assembly apart to access those solder joints, but if you're pretty handy and careful, you can do it without damaging anything.
If necessary, you can purchase a new Heater Control Assembly on-line through such places as Majestic Honda for about $240
Just be sure all the easier solutions are checked out before trying this one.

No cold air just hot


System is vacuum controlled check for vacuum at the switch you replaced If it's there then check the blend door motor (moves the "flapper") If motor is good, then the door is stuck and heater box needs to be taken apart. If no vacuum at the switch, work your way back to the engine where vacuum originates to determine where line is broken or disconnected.

1999 jimmy cycles form hot air to cool air constantly


This sounds like possibly a broken blend door on the heater box assembly or possibly a vacuum problem if the blend door is controlled by vacuum.

97 ford AWD V8 Explorer- electronic temp control for heater


I found another forum on the internet, where a person had a simular problem. I checked on the temperature mixing door in the heater box. The moter was working, so I know I have a broken flapper or linkage inside the box. This is going to be a difficult part to access. Thanks anyway for the offer to help. Tom L
